The absolute confidence. The sheer unearned self-assurance. I love him. But here's the thing that makes Song Jinze fascinating—he's not just a arrogant jerk. The text gives us these tiny cracks. When Xu Lian says something that actually surprises him, he goes quiet. When she calls him out on his ego with 'are you stupid? So full of yourself!'—his expression turns cold. Not because he's actually angry, but because for the first time someone saw through the performance. And Xu Lian? Oh, Xu Lian is a whole different kind of interesting. She's an F-class pretending to be something she's not, sitting in an S-class commander's cockpit, asking about 'firing' mechanisms, completely oblivious to how she's coming across. But she's also sharp—she reads Song Jinze accurately when she suspects he wants flattery, and she delivers exactly what he wants while internally seething. That's survival instinct. The power dynamic between them is delicious. She has 'fatal leverage' over him. He's technically in charge but completely at her mercy. And yet when the tables turn and he's the one holding the syringe, the shift is immediate and terrifying. One moment they're bickering like an old married couple, the next he's coldly ordering truth serum like it's nothing. The moment that got me was when Xu Lian laughed and laughed at his expense, and Song Jinze just... sent the message. No dramatic speech, no confrontation. Just a cold, efficient order to bring truth serum. That's the kind of character detail that tells you everything about who this man is. He doesn't waste energy on anger. He wastes energy on solutions.
