Okay so I have to talk about how this whole furniture-buying scene is actually doing SO MUCH narrative heavy lifting without anyone noticing. On the surface it's just Ye Qinglan going to buy a table and chairs, right? Wrong. This is where the entire social web of the story gets mapped out in real time. First, you've got the introduction of the Zhou family as a unit—parents, eldest brother with his wife and two kids, younger brother Zhou Jingyuan, younger sister Zhou Qingya. That's six people introduced in one scene, and each one gets a tiny beat that tells you everything about their role in the story. Li Chunxiang immediately likes Ye Qinglan (future mother-in-law approval arc set up). Qin Baozhu is warm and gives her peanuts (the supportive sister-in-law trope, checked). Zhou Qingya is envious of Ye Qinglan's fair skin (potential rival energy, or maybe just a kid being a kid—I'm watching). But the real plot masterstroke is Zhou Baoguo throwing in those free stools and broom. It seems like a small generous gesture, but it establishes the Zhou family as genuinely kind people in a genre where in-law conflicts are basically mandatory. The author is already subverting expectations here. Then there's the brigade leader peeking in, thinking about his own son. That's a subplot planted in three sentences. And Zhou Jingyuan's little scene with Ye Bailian? That's the secondary romance track being laid down. The author is juggling at least three relationship storylines simultaneously and making it feel effortless. The chicken soup delivery at the end is the cherry on top—Zhou Beihan hunting wild chicken himself shows his dedication without a single romantic monologue. Actions over words, and it works. Also can we talk about the gold bars and jade bracelets reveal? That's a massive plot bomb dropped in the final paragraphs. A Hong Kong-connected mother hiding family wealth in a rural peasant household? That's not just worldbuilding—that's a ticking clock for future conflict. What happens when that secret gets out? Who finds out? The author is playing 4D chess while pretending to write a cozy romance.
This book is so well written I could literally see everything onfolding like a movie. Truly a very beautiful piece of work! ?

The story line was great and I loved the book but it was rushed in some ways and small stupid stuff with the grammar and the ending was rushed and sudden and I wish it ended a little differently but otherwise it was definitely a great read and good book so good job author

I regret reading it... Now I'm suffering because I want more but there are no new chapters haha. Gosh, I came here out of curiosity, and now I don't want to leave, but I've run out of chapters... Cliffhanger TwT
It honestly is a bit boring and confusing in the first 4 chapters, but the rest are really entertaining. I agree with the review left by TrulyCloudy.
It's definitely worth reading... At least based on the 20 chapters I read, I sincerely want to know when the next update will be.

Based on the reviews, I expected a deeply sinister and dark narrative. However, after finishing the book, I don't find it as extreme as initially anticipated. The reason for this is that the primary couple's unconventional love, considered taboo by society, forms a significant part of the story. Although the themes may be disturbing for some readers, the author tactfully avoids graphic details, which is a relief.
The epilogue and additional content give the impression that it could be seen as a conventional love story, while the main chapters delve into the complex thoughts and motivations of the morally ambiguous characters. The idea of being in conflict with someone like the main character is indeed terrifying, but from an unconventional perspective, their dynamic works in a twisted sort of way.
My only issue with the novel is that I occasionally struggle to grasp certain subtleties, which could either be due to my own lack of understanding or the intricate nature of the storytelling.
