Okay so this whole arc where Shen Yutang just... stops caring? It's giving. Like, the original plot had her as this simp who followed Fu Hansheng everywhere, bringing him water and lunchboxes and basically existing as his personal shadow. And now she's just... done? Threw his photos in the trash? Told Su Ruanruan to eat shit? This is the kind of character arc that makes you want to stand on a table and cheer. But here's what's actually clever about the plot construction: the author didn't just make her snap overnight. They showed us the mechanism. Shen Yutang had been living in a novel, controlled by the plot, and now she's AWAKENED. That's the whole setup. So every time she refuses to play her assigned role, it's not just rebellion—it's literally breaking free from narrative determinism. That's a pretty meta concept for a campus romance novel, honestly. The subplot with Su Ruanruan working at Yelan Palace to try and seduce He Jin is also doing a lot of heavy lifting. It mirrors the original plot's dynamics but flips them—now the female antagonist is trying the same manipulative tactics on a completely different guy, and He Jin just shuts her down instantly. The author is basically saying: the old scripts don't work here anymore. And Fu Hansheng waiting three days for Shen Yutang to apologize? That's the plot tension right there. He's so convinced of his own importance that he can't comprehend her actually moving on. The conflict isn't resolved—it's just entering a new phase. I'm genuinely curious how this plays out.
I barely started reading, I love it. I can't wait to read more and find out what happens next.

I’m loving all of these tied to the mafia books! I especially love the fact that the next book in the series follows as soon as I finish one book so I don’t have to go searching for it. I’m on book 4 Matteo now. Love love love them all.
This Is an enjoyable read. A little polish here and there and I can see this a Lifetime Movie.
