So here's what I noticed about the pacing and I think it's worth breaking down because the author really knows how to ride a wave. Chapter 24 starts with food. A barbecue. Laughter. Ji Tianyi complaining about having no teeth. It's almost comedic, light, warm. And then — bam — Brother Wang's group is hungry, resentful, and the ice spears start flying. The tonal shift is so sharp you practically need a seatbelt. One moment you're smiling at a toddler's antics, the next you're watching Cai Yan test lethal weapons on human beings. That's controlled chaos and it's effective. Then Chapter 25 slows down. The sick child arrives. The tension shifts from physical danger to emotional stakes. Bai Qingyu healing the boy with that warm yellow light — this is the breath between action sequences. It lets you feel the relief before the next wave of tension hits. And Chapter 26? Full action mode. The cellar journey. Zombies everywhere. Team coordination. That moment when Xia Longhui grabs Ji Heng's arm and the author cuts off mid-sentence — "Xia Longhui noticed the subtle sparks of electricity dancing in his pu" — wait, what? The chapter just ENDS there? That's a cliffhanger that made me immediately want to read the next one. The pacing rhythm here is: feast (relax) → confrontation (tense) → healing (relief) → journey into danger (escalation) → cliffhanger (stop). It's a classic wave pattern and it works because each section earns its emotional weight before moving to the next.
