I tried so hard to keep reading this, I really did. It just has every bad cliché tha I hate:An MC who tries to hide his power for a stupid reason. An MC who somehow finds the most beautiful girls around him and forms fast relationships.An MC who tries to take on the world alone rather than finding support from others.Cliché descriptions of women as weak and beautiful creatures waiting to be conquered by men.Cliché extras who somehow think in the most bizarre way possible to maintain MC’s secrets.Most of this would be fine if the author simply skipped a lot of the early stages and moved on to a more balanced story. We do not need 40 chapters to reach level fifteen when the character basically will do nothing but grind until he has to come out.
I, like many others, dropped it at chapter 30, here's why:First of all, chapter 30 was bad enough that the author decided to rewrite it. However, I wouldn't call it an improvement since it introduced some inconsistencies. You'll know what I mean when/if you get there and read the comments. Clearly, the author wanted that chapter to be completely different but gave in to the complaints. Now, the contents of that chapter do not bother me, since I have read, far far worse (trust me). What bothers me is the cliché justification of what happened. It's something you see a lot in stories that are geared towards a certain audience. It does not work in those stories and it certainly does not work in this one, which doesn't even aim for the same audience. The author shifts the responsibility from one party to another as a sort of plot twist, but this is misguided. Actions have consequences and things like infidelity have devastating consequences, more often than not. The same thing happens in a different novel and the cheated party commits suicide (just illustrating the aforementioned devastating consequences). Aside from that, I had many minor complaints such as the cliché back and forth typical of cultivation novels, the long info-dumps and the boring crafting chapters (at some point he spends around 6 chapters crafting weapons and potions), plus, the outright massive rewards the main character gets throughout the novel, but that was not enough for me to drop it. However, that's different when the main conflict of the story gets "resolved" in such an unsatisfying and misguided way.What I did like were some comedic bits such as the main character's narcissism, how he roasts the monsters, the way his relationship with his generals changed from one timeline to another and how they end up joining the monster roast sessions. That was pretty funny, but unfortunately, not enough to keep me going. The author says it gets better but I highly doubt that, considering my major gripe with how the conflict was resolved. Still, I wish the author good luck with this and the next projects and that he continues to improve his skills.

I need to talk about Shang Beize for a minute because WOW. The umbrella scene. The jacket scene. The way he catches her when her ankle gives out. I literally screamed into my pillow. Let me just quote this: "A black umbrella pressed over her head. The man placed the handle into her trembling hand. His palm brushed her skin—burning hot against her icy hand." That's it. That's the tweet. That's the entire romance genre in one sentence. But what really got me was the contrast. Earlier in the chapter, he's this terrifying figure—Liu literally backs down when Shang Beize shows up. He's ruthless, cold, counts down like he's about to throw someone off a roof. And then the SECOND he sees Su Yundai shivering in the rain, all that ice melts. He's gentle with her. He tells her to take a hot shower. He drives her home. He smiles at her in a way that completely unnerves everyone around him. And Su Yundai—she's not some damsel either. When Liu threatens her, she FLINGS her phone over the fence. She's thinking three steps ahead. She's brave. She's smart. And she's also just a tiny girl in a white shirt getting soaked to the bone, her ankle twisted, her belly cramping, and she's STILL standing her ground. The CP chemistry is off the charts. They haven't even had a proper conversation yet and the tension is already palpable. Every time their eyes meet, you can feel it. And that ending where she asks if the kid can stay at HIS place? And he says "You're asking me to babysit?" with that unreadable smile? I'm dead. I'm actually deceased.
