Excellently written and vividly descriptive
I need to talk about Lu Ying because this man is absolutely unhinged and I can't stop thinking about him. The painting scene where he crawls out and wraps his arms around Lian Yin's neck, whispering 'I like you' like it's some sweet confession — except we already know from the memories that this 'liking' involved binding her to a bed with chains. The contrast between how he presents himself here (soft, wounded, like a wronged puppy) and what he actually did to her is genuinely chilling. And Lian Yin's reaction? She helps Xie Sui kill him. She burns the painting. And her only thought is 'he would feel sad.' She's so desensitized to his manipulation that she's mourning him even as she destroys him. Then there's the flashback illusion — the young Lu Ying playing the victim, pretending to be hurt by demonic cultivators, and Lian Yin immediately seeing through it: 'What an act.' She knows him. She knows exactly what he is. But she also knows he's dead. Or is he? The realm spirit won't even answer her directly about the heavenly punishment. He deflects. He plays. This relationship is a mess and I'm obsessed.
