The flow of words is so smooth, I didn't realise I finished reading the first two chapters so quickly! The descriptions are so on point. The first chapter was heart wrenching. Death of King Edard's wife and the birth of the princess Sara.

This book was super entertaining but the ending is so rushed that it physically hurt lol. The author should post their Patreon or other platforms they use for completed works. I would absolutely support them directly if this platform doesn't allow them to compete their works
I just finished this chapter and I need to process because the sheer amount of low-grade tension packed into these pages is exhausting in the best way. Let me catalog the conflicts because there are SO MANY: 1. The Crown Prince vs. First Prince — political rivalry disguised as brotherly affection, escalating through a drinking competition. The stakes here are imperial succession, and the author makes it clear this isn't going away. 2. Lady Song vs. Li Wanran — status and favor within the household. Song's invitation for Yinzhen to come to her quarters for hangover soup after he clearly just wants to leave with Li Wanran? That's not hospitality, that's a power move. 3. Zhang vs. Everyone — she's the most openly hostile character, and yet she's also the most constrained. She can't act against Li Wanran directly because of Lady Song's authority. Her frustration is palpable. 4. Yinzhen vs. Li Wanran (the comedic one) — he's irritated she didn't make him a sachet; she's irritated that she's starving and he won't stop staring at her. This is the conflict that drives the chapter's emotional core. 5. Li Wanran vs. Attendant Zhang — the watching, the suspicion, the deflection. Zhang is up to something, and Li Wanran knows it. The sachet exchange is basically a verbal minefield. What makes this chapter work so well is that the author never lets any of these conflicts resolve. They're all simmering simultaneously. The drinking competition breaks up, but the rivalry doesn't. Zhang gets deflected, but her suspicion isn't addressed. Li Wanran follows Yinzhen to his quarters, but the sachet issue is only paused, not resolved. The stakes feel real because they're layered. A sachet isn't just a sachet — it's a symbol of favor, of attention, of emotional investment. Not making one isn't just an oversight — it's a statement. And Yinzhen knowing this, feeling this, wanting this — that's what makes the conflict personal rather than political. The chapter ends with Yinzhen covering Li Wanran's mouth. The physical gesture stops her words, but it also stops the conflict from escalating. It's a moment of control — his, hers, both, neither. The tension doesn't resolve. It compresses.
Wow, this book is intense! It's so sad how Valerie's life changes after her father dies and her mom remarries. Being sold by her stepfather? That's just awful. I'm so invested in seeing what happens next. This is a page turner so far and you set up the suspense really well. I can't put this down.
