I started this batch of chapters at 11 PM and it is now 2:30 AM and I have absolutely no regrets. The pacing in these chapters is masterful, and I want to talk about why. Chapter 8 opens with Shen Simo's livestream—immediate energy, immediate comedy with the Xiao Sen reveal, and then it drops her into this exhausted, vulnerable state where she's barely holding it together. The author doesn't linger on her fatigue; they use it as a springboard into the Lu HuaiChuan date, which shifts the tone completely. By Chapter 9, we're in this weird, almost comedic territory with Shen Simo fanning him and testing his pride, and then Chapter 10 pivots hard into something much more serious—the twelve-hour shoot, the grilled cold noodles, the sketch reveal. What's brilliant about the structure is that the author understands when to compress time and when to slow it down. The art supply store scene takes up real-time minutes of reading but feels like seconds. The walk back to the studio, though? That's where the author hits the brakes. Every gesture, every twitch of Lu HuaiChuan's expression, every bead of sweat gets its own sentence. And the chapter ends on 'See you tonight'—not as a romantic promise but as a plot device that creates genuine anxiety for the reader. We know something is coming. We just don't know what. That's how you end a chapter. The author also does something sneaky with the livestream segments—they appear almost like interludes between the main narrative, giving us comedic relief while simultaneously dropping exposition about Shen Simo's financial situation and her secret identity. It's structural multitasking at its finest.
the story gives me goosebumps in a good way. It somehow gives me a beauty and the beast vibe but in a more dark and lovely manner! Don't read the reviews. Go and read the book!
