On hold for now while waiting for more chapters. I didn’t have much hope, but I was surprised by how much I loved it. Be warned, though. The tragedy tag almost turned me away, but while the main characters' arcs don’t exactly end tragically (at least as far as I’ve read—I HOPE they’ll end up together), the story is more gory than I expected. It’s not full-on gore, but it’s quite depressing and bloody.
There are lots of scenes involving the deaths of young characters while the main characters are still in game mode. Although it’s not described too vividly, these young characters are basically tortured and die in horrible ways. Yet, somehow, the text manages to be sweet in some lines. You have to remember that the game is based on the main love interest's experiences when he was young (though that’s a bit of a different story), so all those terrible things did happen, and the poor test subjects, most of whom were orphaned young characters, were locked up, abused, tortured, and killed.
The translator thankfully includes trigger warnings in each chapter, but the tragedy tag is there for a reason.

I remember reading this 8 months ago. Personally, I couldn't bring myself to enjoy most of it.
The community that reads this novel is a lot different from those who read other novels on this site. Also, the story caters to girls, so the narrative it spins is objectively polarizing compared to most other novels.

I see that it reached the 20s though, so I suppose there are people who enjoy it. The rating doesn't lie. I can admit that the story is good at what it tries to convey. It's definitely not my cup of tea though.

It's alright, but the main character (MC) can be quite cringeworthy – he comes across as an overly edgy person, which might not sit well with everyone. If you're not a fan of cutesy stuff, you might want to give this a pass.
The female characters are pretty one-dimensional, bordering on clichés, but they still provide decent entertainment most of the time. The series follows a typical slice-of-life (SOL) formula, with a mix of lighthearted moments and occasional serious undercurrents. However, the MC often relies heavily on plot armor to overcome any challenges, which can feel somewhat unfair.
I must emphasize that the MC's cringe factor is off the charts, verging on the same level as early Watamote. So, be warned. Despite that, personally, I enjoy this SOL genre, and if you're into laid-back, harem stories with an overpowered MC, you might find this appealing.
