I love this book. The flow, the grammer. Could be me but I barely noticed an error, lol. Its intriguing and I'm enjoying every minute of it.
I can tell Author invested their time into this book. Keep it up author, I'm rooting for you. I felt bad for the MC though. Can't wait to see her kick arse.
I need to talk about Zongzheng Zhan because THIS MAN is a whole mood and I am obsessed. The moment that whip was coming at Sang Wanwan, the author gave us this tiny, devastating detail: 'The foolish smile vanished from Zongzheng Zhan's eyes.' Just like that. One second he's clinging to her shoulder complaining about being hot, the next second there's this 'cold. savage. murderous.' look in his eyes. The text literally says 'the killing intent of a sleeping beast whose reverse scale had been touched.' I got CHILLS. Actual chills. And what made it even more powerful was what he was about to do. He was prepared to take the blow with his own body. Even if he had to keep pretending to be a fool, he would NOT let anything happen to her. The contrast between his childish 'Wife is the best!' energy and this absolutely terrifying protective instinct is insane. But then — and this is the part that got me — the sharpness vanished AS QUICKLY as it appeared. He peeked through his fingers afterward, noticed the flick of her fingers, and immediately went back to playing the fool. 'Wanwan, why is he dancing on the ground? He looks so ugly!' The man is watching someone lose their mind from poison and his first instinct is to play dumb again. The演技 (I'm sorry I slipped) the ACTING is legendary. And Sang Wanwan's response? She just ruffles his hair and says 'that's what happens when bad people receive heavenly punishment.' She KNOWS. She knows he's not actually foolish, and she plays along. This unspoken understanding between them — two people hiding their true selves from the world, protecting each other in plain sight — is the most beautiful thing I've read in months.
an enjoyable novel
It's a thrilling book to read. Each chapter keeps me wanting for more. It is so detailed that it feels like I'm actually part of the scenarios.
