I need to talk about Pei Yuezhou because this man is EVERYTHING and also absolutely tragic. Let me paint the picture: Chapter 1 opens with him pinned against a wall, drunk, whispering "What will it take to keep you by my side?" like a man who has absolutely lost his mind over this woman. And then later, after they sleep together, he's lying there watching her sleep with this expression that the text describes as "like the most devout of worshippers." DEVOT. He's afraid she'll be furious in the morning. He's afraid of her icy disdain. And he's still clinging to her like she's going to disappear. But then you get the flashback of 19-year-old him—drenched in rain, eyes red-rimmed, clutching her clothes, saying "Zhi Zhi, don't abandon me." That's not the same man as the CEO who has bodyguards stationed outside her door. That's a boy who was hurt and didn't know how to process it, and somehow became this obsessed man who doesn't know how to love without controlling. And Yu Zhi—she's got this incredible internal conflict. The system is screaming at her that he's dangerous, that he's an SSS+ threat level, that she should run. But she literally just spent the night with him and she's thinking about how the 26-year-old CEO is "far more captivating" than the 19-year-old college student. She's choosing to trust her own memories over the system's data. That's either incredibly brave or incredibly naive, and I'm here for it either way. The dynamic between them is so layered. He thinks she despises him. She thinks she might actually love him. The system thinks he's a monster. And Butler Li thinks she's an NPC. Nobody actually knows what's going on between these two, and that dramatic irony is delicious.

A different kind of werewolf story, refreshing not to go into a book where the she-wolf is in dire peril at the hands of some abusive Alpha mate! A nice YA read set to a high school-age backdrop. :)
