my new favorite book. I'm an Ella and Klaus fan. they weren't through so much in their tale. but it was completely necessary for them to heal through this. a completely new story by an amazing new writer. thank you. you won't be disappointed. there is pain, yes but there is love and healing.

definitely a great read
Okay so I need to talk about this dinner scene because honestly it's the kind of chapter that makes you sit back and go 'wow, this author really knows how to layer things.' On the surface it's just a family meal, right? Su Sanxian goes to meet her parents for the first time, brings the kids and Lin Shen along. But the plot mechanics underneath are actually really clever. The setup is already tense — Su Sanxian has amnesia, she doesn't remember Lin Shen, and the Three Cubs are desperately trying to keep their family intact. Then you throw in parents who clearly dislike Lin Shen but are trying to be polite for their daughter's sake. That's three layers of conflict simmering at the same table. What I loved most was how the author used the dinner to advance multiple plot threads simultaneously. Father Su starts complaining about the past — trying to take Su Sanxian home four years ago, Lin Shen refusing to let him — and then Mother Su has to physically stop him. That's not just comic relief, that's worldbuilding. We learn that Lin Shen was the one who kept Su Sanxian away from her family, which completely reframes our understanding of their relationship. And then the violin finger scene hits like a truck. All that happy dinner atmosphere, the kids being cute, and then Dazai notices the blisters and starts crying. The plot just pivots from warm family comedy to something deeper and more painful in one beat. Su Sanxian's lying about not hurting, and we know she is. The kids don't know she's lying but the reader does. That dramatic irony is chef's kiss. The chapter ends with the exercise suggestion and Su Sanxian internally screaming while externally agreeing. Classic setup for future conflict — she clearly doesn't want to exercise but now she's committed in front of everyone. The author is planting seeds everywhere and I'm here for it.
