Amusing read despite grammar is sometimes lacking

"I'm just not coming out. If you've got the guts, come hit me yourself." — right after the most tense scene I've read in months, the author lets Xu Yifan crack this joke and I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. That's the pacing genius of this chapter. It goes from setup (worldbuilding about demonic plants) to dread (Xian Qinglin being drugged) to catharsis (the wooden stick attacks) to pure adrenaline (the fight) to escape (the explosion) to this weird intimate silence at the end. Every beat lands. Nothing drags. The worldbuilding at the start could have been boring if it went on too long, but it's concise and relevant—explaining why Xu Yifan has the resources he does. The rescue scene builds tension masterfully. You hear the cry for help before you see the scene, and Xu Yifan's reaction—his whole body trembling—is immediate and visceral. Then the fight escalates quickly but never feels chaotic. We understand the power dynamics: Ma Xiu has the better weapon, Xu Yifan has the better skills and secrets. And the resolution? Instant. No drawn-out battle. Just a talisman toss and a boom, and they're gone. The cliffhanger ending with Xian Qinglin still under the drug's influence and asking for help? Perfect. I need the next chapter immediately. What a ride.
