Okay so I need to talk about Miao Pingkang because this character absolutely wrecked me. When he first steps into the yard, Miao Yunwei notices his unsteady gait and it hits her like a truck. In her previous life, she missed this entirely. She was too busy wallowing in her own self-pity after getting scammed out of a job, hiding in her room crying, staying at her uncle's place. By the time she came back, he'd already taken over Dad's job and she'd built this whole grudge. Years later she found out he was lame but never bothered to ask. Never showed concern. Just let resentment do the talking. That scene where she sees him standing there, that weathered smile on his face saying 'Second sister!' — I literally had to put the book down. The fact that he came home injured, carrying a small bag, and his first instinct was still to greet his sister warmly? That's the kind of character moment that makes you reevaluate everything you thought you knew about a family. And then Miao Yunwei's internal shift is everything. She goes from the girl who resented her parents in her past life to someone who actually understands their perspective now. When she explains to Miao Lingwei why giving the job to Big Brother makes sense — it's not favoritism, it's survival. A disabled son can't find a wife without a job, and if he stays single it affects everyone's marriage prospects. She sees the whole family as an ecosystem now, not just herself. The father-daughter bike ride conversation is what really sealed it for me though. Miao Jianguo saying 'I gave him the job so he can live with more dignity' — that line. He's not just giving his son a job, he's trying to preserve his son's sense of self-worth. And he's already planning how to pull strings for Miao Yunwei's future. This man is carrying the weight of six people on his back and he doesn't complain once. Miao Lingwei is still Miao Lingwei though — calculating, worried about her own future, asking 'what happens to me when my time comes?' It's annoying but also kind of realistic. She's not a villain, she's just selfish in a way that feels very human. And Miao Yunwei's response — poking her head and calling her out — shows how far she's come. In her past life she might have just seethed silently. Now she's actively protecting her family's harmony.
This book is worth the read even though I found Tiberius to be annoyingly funny, I still enjoyed this book and the journey of him and Katrina coming together and succeeding in getting out. Every chapter Thales was in was so touching.

This was a great book. Had me hooked and it was nice to read something completely completed with the story.

I love how light this book is and no dragging scenes of revenge. I loved Andreas and Lia! This book is on the top of my list for favorite one. ??
