I need to talk about the medicinal wine scene because I literally cannot. This is the kind of scene that makes you put the book down and just stare at the ceiling for ten minutes. Let me set this up for you: she ASKS him to apply her medicine. Not because she needs help—she literally could have waited for Banxia. She asks him because she wants him close. And when he acts all indignant and says "You are simply unruly!" she doesn't push back. She just... starts crying. Fake tears, obviously, but the performance is Oscar-worthy. She goes from pouting to full-on sobbing in approximately two seconds flat. And Yinzhen? He's completely disarmed. The man who just moments ago was ready to lecture her on proper conduct suddenly finds himself wiping away her tears with his thumb. The text says it all: "Looking at her, Yinzhen felt a sudden flutter in his heart." A FLUTTER. This is a prince who probably hasn't felt a flutter in his entire life and Li Wanran just reduced him to a teenage boy with a jar of medicinal wine. But then she drops the nuclear option: "At home, I was very close to my mother... She said that in the future, my husband would treat me the same way. Fourth Prince, aren't you my husband?" I am not okay. She basically looked him in the eye and said "you are my husband and husbands apply medicine" and he just... melted. Completely. The lecture about status? Gone. The indignation? Vanished. He's now sitting there applying her foot medicine like some domesticated golden retriever. And when she tells him to send Banxia away so it's just the two of them? That's not innocence. That's calculated seduction and she knows exactly what she's doing. The way she watches him with that "burning gaze" while he's trying so hard to maintain his composure—this is the most tension I've felt in any romance novel this year.
