This one definitely kept me up way too late reading, having to know what's next! I cannot wait to read the third book.
very interesting story with mix mysteriously love story
The suffering of Anne is too much to bear. I wonder how her body and mind can stand to the beatings, emotionally abd physically. The novel is completed and yet justice for Anne & her family is still nowhere to be seen. Anthony is still doing nothing despite being powerful.

The stakes in this sequence are genuinely high and the author never lets you forget it. Let's talk about what Si Nan stands to lose here. If Li Bo figures out she's a woman, it's not just embarrassment—it's potentially dangerous in this setting. She's disguised herself, she's compromised her identity as the Young General, and she's been running with a wound that's actively bleeding. The physical stakes are real (she could bleed out), but the social and political stakes are even higher. The Prime Minister's son is hunting her. If he discovers she's been hiding in plain sight, what does that mean for the General's family? For her position? And then there's Xiahou Jin. He's the Third Prince. harboring someone Li Bo is actively pursuing is a political minefield. But here's what makes the conflict so compelling—the author flips the expected dynamic. You'd think Li Bo is the threat and Xiahou Jin is the danger, but by the end of this sequence, Xiahou Jin has become her protector and Li Bo has become the pursuer. The allegiances are shifting in real time and it's thrilling. The internal conflict is just as sharp. Si Nan has to swallow her pride completely—she literally begs the man she's rivalled for over a decade for help. That's a massive character moment. And Xiahou Jin? He's fighting something he doesn't understand. The text says 'warmth, unfamiliar and gentle, took root for the first time.' He's a man who's lived twenty-three years without love and now this person he's always clashed with is sitting on his lap and he can't bring himself to push her away. The carriage scene with Li Bo is the peak of tension here. Si Nan is hiding behind Xiahou Jin's legs, holding her breath, and he literally says 'Let him look.' Is he insane? Is he about to hand her over? No—he's trusting her to stay quiet and he's using his authority to shut Li Bo down. That single word 'Hm?' that makes Li Bo break into a cold sweat? That's the voice of someone who holds life and death in his hands, and he's choosing to use it on her behalf. The stakes keep rising and the author never lets up. I was genuinely holding my breath during the carriage confrontation.
Great story, loved the characters, left me wanting more.
