The pacing in these chapters is honestly masterful. Let me break it down because the author really knows how to build tension. Chapter 24 starts slow and domestic — Zhao Yufang and Song Shouyang scheming at the dinner table, Qinghuan studying in her room completely oblivious. It's quiet, almost mundane. But there's this undercurrent of dread, right? You know something is about to explode. Then Chapter 25 shifts gears completely. We get the flashback to Old Madam Zhang, which gives us emotional depth and context, and then BAM — Qinghuan hops on that bicycle and rides off. The transition from her room to the bridge scene is seamless. She's cycling through the spring breeze, ringing the bell, and suddenly we're at the river with a crowd gathered. The author drops this little bomb: "According to the timeline, Song Qiuya should still be back in the countryside… why is she here all of a sudden?" And that's where it ends. The cliffhanger is perfect. It makes you immediately want to read the next chapter. Also, the way the author handles the dual timeline — past life memories woven into present action — never feels clunky. It flows naturally, like Qinghuan is thinking and remembering as she moves through her day. The pacing never drags, never rushes. Every scene serves a purpose.
The story follows a fairly standard plot. The main character (MC) is right not to change his equipment before the tournament begins. Like any athlete, archers rely on gear tailored to their specific needs, and with the tournament starting soon, the MC wouldn't have enough time to adapt to new equipment.
I'm also disappointed by the poor world-building in the story. For starters, how can readers believe the MC can one-shot every other player in the tournament without knowing how health is measured in the game—whether it's through an HP bar or based on the physical condition of the body? Additionally, how can readers believe the MC can use his skills effectively if the MP usage isn't clearly explained? Lastly, the vague descriptions make it hard for readers to understand the geography of the game.
Honestly, I quite enjoy this type of straightforward story, but it would have been much more engaging if the in-game environment and mechanics were detailed more thoroughly.
The narrative is indeed captivating, and the character growth throughout the plot is exceptional. I urge you all to remember the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover," and give it a chance by reading beyond the 20th chapter before forming an opinion. I assure you, you won't be disappointed if you do. Ignore the reviews that criticize the novel without having read more than a few chapters – they might not provide a fair assessment.
