I've always been a fan of the free-flowing genre of danmei stories, so initially, this one seemed like a perfect fit based on the glowing reviews from others. However, despite the promising start, I can't quite put my finger on what's missing for me. After reading 137 chapters, only the High School Arc truly evoked an emotional response.
The protagonist is an intriguing character, displaying a detached demeanor that he skillfully conceals through his acting skills, essential for a magician. Although he shares similarities with the male lead in temperament and thought process, their divergent paths intrigue the ML. Despite enjoying the classic "Enemies-to-Lovers" trope, this particular couple dynamic doesn't resonate with me, and I find myself inexplicably drawn to the MC-Zhuge An ship, despite their less-than-perfect natures.
The first four arcs, which have been fully translated, are well-done but lack depth, leaving little lasting impression. The High School Arc stands out as emotionally impactful, with its psychological drama and engaging plot即使没有华丽的道具也能吸引我。 That's why I'm giving it a 4-star rating.
The Amusement Park arc didn't live up to my expectations, and I started losing interest. It's not the ML's fault; I've enjoyed danmei with worse protagonists before, like in "Welcome to Nightmare Live." However, there's a lack of chemistry that keeps me from investing in the main couple. I appreciate flawed characters with gray areas, but currently, I feel like MC has better connections with Zhuge An or even the Spoiler's original fiancé, Van Zhuo.
Since my friend is finishing the novel, I'll wait for her thoughts, hoping that perhaps our shared preferences might change my perception of the couple's dynamics as more of the story unfolds.

If you are into war stratagems or just armies fighting it out to see who is superior then this novel is for you. I personally love this one and hold fond memories as this was one of the first novels i read.
