Don’t waste your money this book isn’t being updated
Okay so let me just say—this dream sequence at the beginning is NOT just filler. I know some people might skim past it, but no. Her mother and grandfather telling her to 'live well,' then this mysterious little boy appearing... it's giving me major rebirth novel energy. Like, the dream is basically her subconscious processing everything that happened in her past life and setting the tone for what's coming next. She wakes up and her body feels different—less weak, more capable—and that's when the plot really kicks into gear. Then she goes from the emotional dream to straight-up confronting her stepmother for money. The pacing here is chef's kiss. One minute she's crying in a dream about losing her family, the next she's like 'give me the money or I'm going to Daddy.' The tonal whiplash is intentional and I love it. It shows she's not just some passive reborn protagonist—she's already strategizing. The shopping section is where the plot really opens up. She's not just buying clothes; she's building a foundation. Stockpiling food, buying seeds, getting a live hen into her space—this is world-building disguised as a shopping trip. And that black market scene? That's setting up future plot threads. Director Li is clearly going to be relevant later. The plot is laying groundwork without feeling like it's laying groundwork. It just feels like a girl getting her shit together, which is somehow even better.
It starts with a very intriguing premise: The hidden daughter of the villainess and the male lead.
Early chapters / background: After her biological father discovers her existence, he attempts to win her affection. However, she is strongly opposed to following him and harbors hatred or dislike towards him. She remains steadfast in her stance. As the story progresses, more reasons for her animosity are revealed. Eventually, she is coerced into compliance when the male lead threatens her grandfather’s life.
The writing and translations are of high quality.
Don’t read this if you are not looking for:
- Intrigues and schemes
- Reasons for characters' actions being revealed gradually / not immediately understanding why characters behave in certain ways
- A serious and thoughtful main character who acts maturely and doesn’t show many emotions
If I had to give this novel a tag, it would be: #It gets worse before it gets better
(In a good way, though)
The novel successfully achieves its goal, but the premise might not be immediately apparent from the title and summary. Initially, I expected a familiar trope where the protagonist rises from humble beginnings due to a possession, gaining popularity. However, the narrative takes an unexpected turn.
If you seek a straightforward villain possession story focused on power-ups, recognition, and survival, this might not be your cup of tea. Some readers found these elements lacking, even though they constitute half the story.
If you're struggling with depression or mental health issues, I urge you to consider carefully. The author's portrayal of mental health is vivid and intense, which could potentially trigger uncomfortable reflections for those with personal experience. It's essential to read the warnings before diving in.
As for the "powering up" aspect, this story doesn't adhere to rigid rules. The system, though primarily benefiting the main character, serves as a plot device that adds depth. It's adaptable and almost has a personality, which might disrupt the traditional formula for some.
On a positive note, I've genuinely enjoyed the story thus far. The protagonist's backstory is integral, mysteries keep the plot engaging, and the multifaceted female characters provide rich interactions with the MC. Overall, if these aspects resonate with you, I would definitely recommend giving it a chance.
I am so incredibly addicted to this novel I get withdrawal symptoms waiting for new chapters
1.9 now lol
Nian junting is so cute.
alright then I will
This is a novel that delivers a bittersweet pleasure, far from being a tedious read. The interactions among the main characters are consistently captivating, and the pacing is superb. The writing for the protagonist's inner thoughts is exceptional.
As an avid reader, I found "The Royal Highness" an intriguing blend of drama and intrigue. The prose is elegant, painting vivid pictures of regal life, while the protagonist's journey from humble beginnings to navigating the treacherous world of high society captivated me. The unexpected twists kept me hooked, and I particularly admired the author's deft handling of complex relationships. It's a compelling read that leaves one pondering the power dynamics and the human spirit's resilience. A definite page-turner for those who love historical fiction with a modern twist.
It a time backflow right? It is not the past?
I bet that little spirit killed him, what a yandere. Or it could be one of those kill the family member to succeed kinda schemes.~Chapter 1
