Nice story author
That was a great story. Kinda rushed ending. But thoroughly enjoyed it!!
Let me just sit with this for a moment. The Chen Family Restaurant thugs show up. A girl with a boning knife faces down a professional butcher. It's tense, it's dangerous, you're worried she might actually get hurt. And then Chang An appears and it's OVER. Two seconds. Done. You think the stakes were high? WRONG. Because the NEXT morning, Manager Zhou shows up with FOUR lackeys and a head full of bad intentions. And this time, the threat feels REALER. Why? Because you now know what's at stake. This isn't just about a restaurant. This is about Taiping Ward, about guilds connected to officials' private estates, about the Supreme Court's reach. The stakes have expanded from "will this girl lose her shop" to "will this girl survive the criminal ecosystem of an entire ward." And then Bai Qi appears and the stakes SHIFT again. Now it's not just about local thugs—it's about a man who is literally dying, whose stomach has been failing him for months, whose face was "as pale as paper" until Qin Yaoyao's soup gave him color. The personal stakes and the political stakes are WOVEN together. If the Chen Family Restaurant wins, they don't just destroy a cook—they destroy the only person who can keep their patron alive. The suspense is maintained brilliantly because every resolution creates a new, bigger problem. Manager Zhou is defeated, but he reveals that the patrol schedule is a LOOPHOLE used to bully people. Bai Qi's response? "Reorganize the patrol routes in the capital." One conflict solved, systemic problem exposed, and the hero is already planning his next move. The author never lets you rest. Each chapter ends not with a question mark but with an EXPANSION of the world and its dangers. And the physical stakes? Bai Qi coughing up dark-purple phlegm. That image haunts me. This is a man fighting for his life with every breath, and the weapon he's fighting with is a bowl of shepherd's purse and bamboo shoot soup. The stakes have never felt more visceral.
when will you update.
an interesting read keeps you glued
Loving the book already, Author Z please update soon. oh how I love the mafias
151 chapters 9-8-23
I really, really love this webnovel!! I've never wished more for a pairing to be happy than I have for Sendai and Miyagi ? If only these two could start being honest with each other! After 250 chapters and, spoiler alert, 3 instances of intimacy, the two are still not dating, but it's becoming clear that they're approaching the stage where they realize their feelings! I really like the two characters and want the best for them; they're both emotionally stunted, which is so endearing.
Much darker than I initially expected from the description, but it has excellent storytelling, genuine character development, and a high-quality translation.
2024 Update: After two attempts, I ended up dropping this novel. Midway through, the plot shifts to a highly stereotypical interstellar narrative with a shallow main character (MC) and a show-off male lead (ML). This wouldn't be an issue if that's what I was looking for, but the stark contrast between the depth of the first half and the superficiality of the second half ruined the story for me.
"It's quite enjoyable, gentle and heartwarming. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are a few minor loose ends, but the focus on their blossoming relationship makes it all the sweeter. I really appreciate it."
It's utterly revolting; I just can't comprehend the mindset of these Japanese MC. Why do they persist in avoiding all female characters as if they're catastrophic? Initially, he claimed he wanted to stay away from in-game characters, like the protagonist and heroines, but what about the girl he rescued and others? Didn't he say she wouldn't appear in the game? It raises suspicion that despite being a son of a duke, someone expected to possess high social acumen, he might be an oddball who refuses to engage with anyone. Until the latest translated chapters, I refuse to rate it above one star.
After 9 months they're still doing it
F*ck*rs don't know what it's like to have chapters blocked and not being able to read for free
