Love all of the books so far didn’t think it could get any better after Alpha Theo, but Alpha Jax story line is just as amazing! Theo and Brooke my favs but Jax and Quinn are hot love it.

Okay, so the stakes in these chapters are absolutely razor-sharp and I need to talk about why. On the surface, it's just an engagement being broken, right? Wrong. Every conflict here has layers upon layers. Chuntao's conflict: she nearly lost her place in the palace, someone took her position, she's jealous but also calculating, and she's wondering if the emperor even wants her now. The stakes are survival — literally, in a palace where one wrong move could mean death. Then there's Zhou Mingyi walking into the Cen residence knowing full well that Madam Cen's people once tried to drug her and send her to the crown prince's bed in her previous life. That's not just conflict, that's trauma. And Madam Cen's conflict is delicious — she wants to break the engagement but can't seem cruel, so she plays this elaborate game of false modesty and social performance. The Cen family's political stakes are enormous too. They've bet everything on the crown prince. If Zhou Mingyi's brother offended the emperor, that's not just a family problem — that's a political liability. And yet Zhou Mingyi comes in calm as ice, offering to break the engagement herself. The internal conflict here is massive — Madam Cen has to swallow her pride, pretend to be reluctant, and actually feel grateful while pretending to be disappointed. And that ending with the maidservant asking about the purpose of the visit? The stakes just keep climbing. What does Zhou Mingyi really want? What does she know? The author makes you care about every outcome because everyone has something to lose.
