thank you author for the update
Okay so let me just say — the USB drive subplot is genuinely genius and I didn't see it coming at ALL. Lin Yue loses it in the meeting, panics, thinks she's going to get fired, and He Yuan is surprisingly chill about it. Turns out it was a TRAINING exercise! He never planned to use the data. The meeting was already going fine. He was testing her ability to stay calm under pressure. I literally gasped out loud at the hot pot restaurant when I re-read that part. But then — and this is the part that made me actually mad — Qing Jing had the USB the whole time. She stole it. She took it from the apartment and was sitting there with it like some petty little trophy. And when Lin Yue confronted her, Qing Jing's response was basically "so what, you're fine now." THAT is the moment I knew their friendship was dead. Not the noise complaint, not the dirty kitchen — that was just setup. The USB betrayal is what crossed the line. Also, the Dachuang VP trying to poach Lin Yue and He Yuan turning him down? Qing Jing finding out about this through gossip and letting jealousy rot her from the inside? That's classic but it WORKS. The author didn't over-explain it either — just dropped it in naturally during the confrontation. Efficient writing.
Really great!
