Both books that I'm reading are "to be continued. " unacceptable! If the book is not complete, it should not be published! I'm sure I can find a good paperback book to read without interruption. I don't have time to waste on 1/2 a book here and there. I'm not alone in feeling this way.

Let me just say this: the transition from the domestic family drama into the assassination scene is absolutely flawless. You go from Yunxi having a quiet breakfast with the grandmother and kids—warm, slow, almost sleepy pacing—and then BAM. She slips out into the night, sees a ghost, fights a female spirit, promises to help her, and then immediately pivots to Zhan Beiyuan being ambushed by over a dozen assassins. The chapter structure here is doing something really smart. It uses Yunxi as the connective tissue between two completely different storylines. She handles the ghost situation, then hears about the Bloodlight Disaster, and races to save Zhan Beiyuan. The pacing never drags because every scene has a clear purpose and a clear emotional beat. The assassination scene itself is choreographed like a movie. You have the carriage stopping, Qi Yan reporting, Zhan Beiyuan's calm response, the archers on the rooftops, the arrow grazing his arm—each detail builds tension without slowing things down. And then Yunxi appears like some kind of ethereal savior, knocks out one archer with a brick, shoots another through the arm, and walks away like it's nothing. The chapter ends on a slightly lighter note with Grandmother and Yunxi discussing the fortune-telling stall, which gives the reader a moment to breathe before the next wave of drama. It's a classic tension-release-tension structure and it works perfectly. One thing I will say: the transition between the ghost storyline and the assassination storyline felt just a TINY bit rushed. Yunxi goes from helping a ghost to saving a prince in what feels like five minutes. But honestly, in a web novel format, this kind of brisk pacing is probably what keeps people reading. I'm not complaining.
