This story needs to be taken out behind the barn, shot, burned, and finally buried. The author clearly doesn’t understand what "overly-cautious" means. It’s not just about being overly-prepared; it also means being extremely careful with one's words and the people one speaks to. Being overly-cautious does not mean being a jerk, either in words or actions. The main reason the anime industry is failing is undoubtedly because poorly written stories like this keep getting chosen over well-crafted ones.
This is an exceptional novel, with a compelling plot and well-developed characters, interwoven with moments of comedy. There were several poignant scenes that evoked strong emotions, causing me to shed tears. One instance stood out when Lin Qing and Lin Lin Ting's camaraderie cooled after the Summer Hunt. Lin Feilu found herself caught in the middle, witnessing their conflict and bracing herself for the inevitable choice of supporting the defeated. My heart broke for Lin Ting, whose mental and emotional state crumbled. He lost his smile and brightness, forced to align himself with his mother's ambitions, shouldering the burden of countless lives sacrificed along the way. Even Emperor Father, aware of Lin Ting's reluctance, seemed to push the situation to escalate, which, in my view, surpassed Ruan-gufei's actions in cruelty. In the end, Lin Qing's reluctance to spare Lin Ting's life led to his exile, a pragmatic move to maintain stability and balance within the royal family. Had it not been for Lin Feilu's intervention before they left, Lin Ting might not have survived. That particular moment was the most heart-wrenching part of the story. On a lighter note, Lin Jingyuan's sarcastic remark about the difficulties of ascending the throne, followed by his punishment from Consort Xian, provided a humorous contrast amidst the drama.
The initial part of the book is captivating (4.5/5) due to its elements of bitterness, resourcefulness, survival, revenge, and苦难, making for an engaging narrative. However, the plot takes a surprising turn, abandoning those themes and transforming into a wish fulfillment romance that I never anticipated. Despite continuing to read, it seemed like the earlier motifs wouldn't return, as the main character (MC) became so overpowered that his personal struggles became irrelevant.
I have a personal theory that I've come to believe might be true: during the climax in the first dungeon, when Hajime watches Yue struggle against the hydra and ultimately defeats it with his last ounce of strength, he might be in a coma or still in the dungeon. This could account for the MC's extraordinary abilities, the summoned hero's lack of defense, and the sudden bursts of wish fulfillment that occur after he wakes up at the end of the first dungeon. The fact that he doesn't suffer significant consequences afterward supports this theory.
If this theory pans out, and the author reverses course, revealing they've been toying with our expectations all along, I would reconsider picking up the series and even consider it the greatest story ever written.
I didn't anticipate enjoying this book so much. Initially, I read it years ago but abandoned it after a few chapters because I found it boring. However, I kept going back and forth, picking it up and putting it down until now. To my surprise, I've become deeply invested in the main character, despite it being a typical Yandere trope with a tragic backstory.
The storytelling may be slow, but I lose myself in the narrative, and the clichés don't bother me. There's a mix of satisfaction and longing, which adds depth to the experience. The scene where she sews his boots shows her sincerity, a habit from her past life, which she unknowingly uses to please the male lead even in this timeline. Habits can be hard to break, as we see.

If you enjoy Yandere stories with shorter chapters, I would give this a solid 4.8 out of 5 stars.
