It was quite the ride, but worth it. (Although I’m going to cross my fingers and hope for an epilogue).
Okay so let me just say this out loud—Xing Yu carrying Wen Yao in his arms up to the fifth floor like she weighs nothing? That is not just a plot device, that is a whole statement. The man literally lifts her, supports her legs on his thigh, finds her key from her bag, unlocks the door—all while she's clinging to him like a koala. And then in the bathroom when she falls backward and he catches her? He holds her there, arm around her waist, and she's pressing against him, hand wandering toward his groin, and he has to literally tell her 'don't move.' Bro is fighting for his life in there. But here's what really got me—when she's drunk and calling him 'President Xing' one second and 'Xing Yu' the next, he actually pauses. The text says 'He paused. It was the first time he heard her call his full name.' That is a whole emotional earthquake in two sentences. He's been watching her from afar this whole time, and in her drunk state she accidentally strips away the professional barrier and calls him by his actual name. And he notices. He absolutely notices. What does this say about their dynamic? That she's been treating him as an authority figure while he's been treating her as someone he needs to protect, and now the roles are blurring in the most chaotic way possible. I'm just wondering—when she sobers up and remembers any of this, is she going to pretend it never happened or is she going to finally confront him about all the times he's been watching her?
please let their be a sequel to this book
