WeavedSlave
This story is aggravatingly stupid. The author tries really hard to make the conversations and internal thoughts edgy, but it only works if you don't try to match what they say with their motivations.I really wanted to like this story. I think the overall plot and settings are interesting.
The stakes in this passage are incredibly well-managed. Let me walk through why: On the surface, the conflict is about Su Xiaoyin severing ties with the Lin family. But underneath? It's about survival in a village where reputation is currency and gossip can destroy you. When Su Xiaoyin says 'After this matter, her and Yuan Songzhi's reputation would inevitably be affected,' she's acknowledging the real danger. In this setting, a ruined reputation isn't metaphorical — it's economic, social, and potentially physical. The Lin family's desperation is palpable. They thought they could handle this quietly. They calculated that Su Xiaoyin 'had never gone to the city' and therefore couldn't have evidence. Their confidence crumbles when she drops names and positions like 'surname is Xue, she is a cadre in the furniture factory's propaganda department, her father is the workshop director.' That's not just information — that's a nuclear option in village politics. Lin Limei's panic when Yuan Songzhi mentions the kettle? 'Her pupils contracted sharply.' She's been exposed. The 'reborn' advantage she thought she had? Gone. The author really loves showing us that knowing the future doesn't help when someone has the present. The highest tension moment? When Su Xiaoyin produces Doctor Liu's note and someone tries to step forward to read it. She puts it away. 'You really will not give up until you see the Yellow River.' She controls the reveal. She controls the pace. She's no longer the victim — she's the strategist. And the final stakes? The Lin family can't let this go public. 'If they still wanted to live well in the brigade, they could not let the matter blow up.' That's the entire village power structure at play, and Su Xiaoyin just turned it against them.
