I was never a fan of Riley but I'm so excited for his story now. I definitely recommend starting with He's my Alpha & all the books before this one. It's so worth it & will make more sense since all the characters can be found in each of the novels & they are all connected in one way or another

The cracked roads, the potholes, abandoned vehicles collided everywhere, rain-damaged pipelines, no one left to maintain anything. It's been less than a month and cities are already falling into ruin. That line — "cities without people had already fallen into astonishing ruin" — it's so matter-of-fact and that's what makes it hit so hard. The scene where Wen Lan slips into the backyard to dig energy pearls out of zombie corpses, wrapping a plastic bag around her hand as a makeshift glove? That's the kind of gritty, practical detail that makes this world feel real. She's not some superhero with fancy gear — she's using a machete and a plastic bag from someone's house. The image of her with blood covering both hands, digging into a zombie's chest, is visceral and disturbing in the best way. And the convoy itself — two vehicles, Zhang Ye on a motorcycle clearing the way, Ji Cang driving the middle car, Su Han bringing up the rear. The whole setup feels tactical and lived-in, like this team has done this before. The fact that they're running low on food and Ji Feng eats way more than everyone else because he's a strength-type ability user? Those little worldbuilding touches — the resource scarcity, the different ability types having different needs — they add up to something that feels genuinely immersive. This isn't just a zombie story with a cool power system layered on top. The world has weight.

I love this book . I love Nicole so much . She reminds me of Eclipse Anderson / Wolf from Hannaford Prep series . They both seem like sisters .
