Oh what a beautiful love story! I was a bit sceptical at first but Alle you blew my mind and all expectations! Wonderfully written, got me hooked from the first chapter, love the characters and dynamic of the story. I highly recommend it, in the top books I read !!!
The courtyard scene where Wang Cuifen storms in is one of the most vividly written sequences I've read in a while. Let me paint it for you: Bang! The courtyard gate is kicked open. A plump middle-aged woman — Zhang Yong's mother — charges in screaming curses, followed by several relatives with dark expressions. 'Smash it! Smash the Song family!' And they go to town on tables, chairs, benches. This isn't just background noise; the author makes you HEAR the crashing, FEEL the chaos, see Wang Cuifen raising her hand to slap Fanghua, and then Fanghua — calm as ice — taking two steps back and watching the woman face-plant. The visual of Wang Cuifen scrambling to her feet, face flushed with anger and 'a hint of barely noticeable embarrassment' — that detail alone tells you everything about her character. She's performative in her rage. And then Director Li arrives. The shift in atmosphere is immediate. The neighbors had fetched him precisely because they feared trouble, and his presence changes the energy from violent chaos to tense negotiation. The way he pulls Wang Cuifen aside and whispers to her, then returns with her anger 'noticeably subsided' — that's worldbuilding through action, not exposition. You understand the power dynamics of this neighborhood without a single info-dump. The contrast between the noisy, chaotic courtyard and Fanghua's quiet, dilapidated storage room where she retreats at the end is also striking. That storage room becomes her sanctuary, and when she enters Kongjian, the description of shelves 'piled high with all kinds of goods' is such a sharp visual shift from the gray, cramped world outside.
This book is really heart reaching! I wanted to cry through most of it. I liked the second ending better but I also like the original ending. Just be warned to have tissues with you as you are reading.

Okay so I just finished these chapters and I need to talk about the plot mechanics because honestly the author is playing 4D chess here and I am HERE for it. The main plot setup is already fascinating — Wen Chu has transmigrated into a novel and immediately identifies Xi Liye as the "madman" male lead who will eventually kill her. So her entire motivation becomes: how do I survive this romance novel without getting murdered? The plan she drafts in that memo app? Genius. "Top Secret: The Breakup Guide for Safely Escaping Xi Liye." I literally laughed out loud. The strategy of being deliberately clingy and annoying to drive him away — it's so logically sound for someone who knows the genre tropes. But here's where it gets deliciously tense: every time she tries to execute her plan, the plot keeps subverting her. She sends those over-the-top clingy messages — "Are experiments more important than me?" — and instead of getting annoyed, Xi Liye replies with a voice message. The chapter ends on that cliffhanger and I was SCREAMING. The author is building this cat-and-mouse game where Wen Chu thinks she's the one controlling the narrative, but clearly Xi Liye operates on a completely different frequency. The subplot with the campus forum post is also brilliantly woven in. It creates external pressure on Wen Chu (everyone knows she's dating the school's ice prince) while simultaneously raising the stakes — she can't just quietly ghost him now because the whole campus is watching. That's smart plotting. It forces her into a corner where her escape plan has to be even more carefully executed. And then there's the mother subplot that hits out of nowhere. The phone call from Lin Xiuyun about Uncle Pei — it's a genuine emotional pivot that deepens the story beyond just a survival romance. Wen Chu's past-life trauma about losing her parents and being surrounded by greedy relatives adds real weight to why she values this new mother figure. The author isn't just writing a plot; they're layering in emotional stakes that make Wen Chu's choices feel earned. The pacing is tight too. Each chapter ends on a moment that makes you immediately want to keep going. The forum reveal, the professor calling on her, the mom call, the voice message cliffhanger — it's a relentless chain of hooks.
The story is too long for me, I will rate it again after it reaches the ending
