Then BAM, Li Big Mouth appears and everything escalates. The transition from a peaceful market scene to a full-blown confrontation happens almost seamlessly. What I love is how the author doesn't linger too long on any one beat. The fight with Li Big Mouth, the trip to Director Xu, the resolution, the return to buy the fish—it all moves at a clip that keeps you turning pages. There's no dragging, no unnecessary filler. Even the scene with Director Xu, which could've been a long bureaucratic procedure, gets trimmed down to the essential beats: accusation, defense, judgment, apology. And then it loops back to the seafood, which is a nice structural touch—it brings the chapter full circle to where it started. The chapter ends on this quieter, more reflective note with the children selling seafood, which gives the reader a moment to breathe after the drama. It's like the author knows exactly when to speed up and when to slow down. That's skillful writing right there.
