Okay so let me just say this: the moment Xu Yifan shows up and starts smacking Ma Xiu with a wooden stick is one of the most satisfying plot beats I have ever read. Like, the author sets this up so perfectly. We get all this worldbuilding about demonic plants and beasts and soul power first—seems like filler, right? But then it pays off because suddenly Xu Yifan can refine pills effortlessly, has talismans and array plates, and most importantly, he's hiding his true power level. That's why Ma Xiu has no idea what he's dealing with. The fight scene itself is brilliant too—Ma Xiu thinks he's got the upper hand because his sword is a third-grade magic tool, but Xu Yifan is holding back the whole time. And then the explosion? Chef's kiss. He doesn't even stay to fight. Just grabs Xian Qinglin and bails. The plot is moving so fast here but it never feels rushed because every beat earns its place. The only thing I'm wondering about is what happens next—Ma Xiu is probably dead or severely injured, and Xian Qinglin is now connected to someone who just obliterated a courtyard. How does he explain that? And more importantly, what is Xu Yifan's endgame here? He's clearly not your average low-grade continent cultivator, and this rescue feels like the inciting incident for something much bigger.

Translations are still at only a very early stage, so it's hard to say much about the story, and as such, I won't give it a final rating at this point. **Tentatively, I'd rate it 4/5** so far, but that can easily go up or way down to the bottom depending on how the story develops.
EDIT: As of chapter 8, this is now 3/5, and the story seems to be going hard downhill. I no longer recommend this.
The beginning seems interesting, with the main character (MC) actually rejecting the scumbag and staying adamant (so far) in her rejection, which is a breath of fresh air. The MC and her grandfather feel very vivid as characters despite the short character-building time of 6 chapters.
However, the original male lead's actions seem completely out of place, and his obsession makes no sense, even after it has been explained at least once. Additionally, the plot seems fairly forced when it comes to keeping the original male lead involved with the actual MC. It feels like he is some sort of "keep the MC on her toes" system rather than an actual character.

For example, his out-of-place obsession with his daughter is explained by: "because she carries his blood" and only that, even going as far as to neglect his wife and stepdaughter, the ones for whom he betrayed the family that took him in when he was a traitor's child.
The King of Wind Spirits suddenly pipes up unprompted, kind of out of nowhere after the MC escapes, stating that the MC did indeed escape so that the original male lead can keep obsessing and (probably) tracking her down. At the same time, it's mentioned that the King of Wind Spirits seems to hate the original male lead and is protecting the MC, so?
The original male lead seems to be able to converse with his daughter, except when it comes to listening to what she has to say. (I'll admit that this isn't an unreasonable reaction for him to have when he wants his daughter back, but even so, it comes across as unnaturally forced.)

Completed both the series and its sequel up to the latest chapter, and I absolutely adored it! I'm not particularly skilled at writing reviews, but if you're curious about whether you'll enjoy it, consider this question:
Do you appreciate stories filled with an abundance of humor, featuring quirky characters and a protagonist who effortlessly provides comedic relief, even during intense moments?
If not, you might find the lightheartedness during serious scenes less appealing. However, if humor is your jam, then buckle up for a fantastic read!
