I need to process what just happened because my emotions are ALL over the place. Lu Xi went from mocking Cheng Youyou at every opportunity to grabbing her hand and saying 'Please protect my cubs' with tear-filled eyes. That shift didn't feel rushed because the author earned it through action, not words. Cheng Youyou didn't try to win Lu Xi over—she just showed up and did the work while everyone else was shouting. The most emotionally devastating moment is when Cheng Youyou uses her last bit of healing power and collapses. She's pale, drenched in sweat, ringing in her ears, and still she forces herself to stay conscious because 'if Lu Xi didn't wake up soon, things could go very wrong.' This is a woman who would literally burn her own life force for someone who hated her. That's not just dedication—that's the kind of loyalty that changes relationships forever. And Lu Xi waking up, seeing her newborn cub wrapped in beast-hide, and finding the strength to keep going for the second cub? I literally teared up. The bond between mother and child, the trust between two women who started as enemies—it all converges in that cave and it's beautiful. I'm already obsessed with where this relationship is going. These two are going to be unstoppable together.
I'm not feeling Chris for the moment. Can't wait to go on this journey.
