The atmosphere in these chapters is absolutely immaculate. Let me paint the picture for you: winter, heavy snow, a modest household at the foot of a mountain. The screen dividing the bathing area—that's such a brilliant visual device. It's literally and figuratively separating them while also bringing them closer. You can feel the intimacy of that thin barrier. The sound of water, the steam, the ginger soup warming the room—everything is sensory. And then there's the dressing table scene, Liu Zhiheng frowning at philosophical questions to distract herself, and Duan Wujiu emerging from behind the screen with damp hair and a loosely tied white inner robe. The visual of him bending over to dry her hair, giving her a peek at his chest and abs—cinematic doesn't even cover it. The contrast between the warm interior and the cold snow outside is constant. Even when Xie Tinglan arrives, the author takes time to describe the snow-covered path, the fewer people they encounter, the isolation of the Liu household. It's not just setting; it's mood. The world feels lived-in and real, and every scene is painted with this wintry, intimate palette that makes you feel like you're there, eavesdropping on something sacred and dangerous at the same time.
