Let me just pause and appreciate how escalated this got. We started with a photoshoot dispute — which was already pretty high stakes for An Li's career — and now we're talking about allergic reactions, hospitalization, potential lawsuits for intentional harm, and family reputation in the Jingbei social circle. The author ramps up the tension masterfully. What makes this conflict so gripping is that everyone has something to lose, and they're all playing different games. Madam Wen wants revenge and control. Wen Shuyi wants An Li destroyed and her position secured. Duan Xingning wants to protect his family's reputation and his engagement. Duan Zhuo wants... honestly, I'm still not sure. He claims he wants An Li protected, but he also wanted her and his brother apart. An Li just wants to survive without losing her dignity. The stakes are layered beautifully. On the surface: will An Li go to jail for allegedly trying to kill someone? Deeper: will she lose her job and her reputation in the music industry? And underneath everything: will she ever be believed by the one person who should believe her? The suspense is maintained through the hospital scene's ticking clock — Wen Shuyi is still unconscious, the evidence is being constructed in real time, and every conversation pushes An Li further into a corner. Duan Zhuo's intervention is the release valve, but it's also a double-edged sword because now the Wen family knows they can't win through manipulation alone. They'll come back harder. And An Li has drawn a line with Duan Xingning that can't be uncrossed. The chapter ends with Madam Duan returning — and that's the author dropping a fresh bomb on an already volatile situation. The stakes just got higher again.
