I randomly stumbled on this book, unexpectedly, it is not the usual maraige themed billioniare books. This is a total different revenge plot, with action, romance and humour inbetween.

I need to talk about the dialogue because this author really knows how to give each character a distinct voice. Eldest Aunt Huo is absolutely savagely funny — 'You're so poor you can't even afford food, yet you still insisted on taking a wife.' That line alone made me laugh out loud. She's cruel, calculating, and completely unapologetic about it. Then there's Huo Changfu, who has this wonderfully entitled energy: 'I'm my second uncle's own nephew. What's wrong with eating one chicken from your family?' The sheer audacity. And Mother Huo's dialogue is pure raw emotion — she's not thinking, she's just reacting, cursing, crying, swinging a kitchen knife. Her voice is completely different from everyone else's. But what really impressed me was Ning Yuchan's dialogue — or rather, the lack of it. She barely speaks in this whole scene, and that silence is SO telling. She's new, she's uncertain, she's trying to figure out where she stands. The only thing she says with real conviction is 'Mother, the rooster has been found. Let's go back.' She's trying to de-escalate, to protect her family. It's a quiet voice but it carries so much weight. The narrative voice itself is also really good — it's warm and slightly wry, never judgmental even when describing terrible people. It lets the characters reveal themselves through their own words.
