Another great book!
I really enjoyed the first book (read it over at AnyStories). Had started reading book 2 here several months ago and decided to take a break until it was completely finished since I prefer to binge-read a book. Now my readingprogress is gone along with the money I spended :(
I paid for 2nd party of this book 1-53 and it doesn't show any chapters before 8.
I feel that Jason and Lucien are going to be strong male leads. They sound interesting.
update pls
The pacing in these chapters is really well-controlled. Let me walk through how it builds. It starts with confusion—Ding Li noticing that the demons aren't showing up where they should. This is the setup, the "something's wrong" phase. Then we get the exposition dump about Demon Vines, which could have been boring if handled poorly, but it's delivered through dialogue and Ding Li's internal frustration, so it moves. Then there's the character introduction with Xiao Wenjing, which serves dual purpose: we learn about him and we feel the tension of Ding Li knowing his true nature. This is the calm before the storm, and it's deliberately slower here, letting us settle into the group dynamic. The shift happens when they enter the clothing shop. The scene goes from outdoor exploration to indoor confinement, and the pacing tightens. The shop owner's explanation, Xiao Wenjing's suspicious questioning, the sudden appearance of the infected man—all of this happens in quick succession, each beat building on the last. And then the night scene. The screams start, then multiply, then the street fills with infected people. The author doesn't linger here; they move fast, almost breathlessly, which mirrors what the characters are experiencing. By the time the green lights start drifting through the air and Chu Zilan is swinging her sword, the pace has reached a fever pitch. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger with the vines attacking, which is exactly the right place to cut. You want to keep reading. Not because the story is manipulative, but because the tension has been earned.
