Let me just say this: the atmosphere in this book is *chef's kiss*. Chapter 2 has this one moment where Xiao Yu and Shen Yi are walking through Suzhou and Xiao Yu notices something deeply wrong. The people are all smiling. Not just happy—*uniformly* smiling. Adults and children alike, and their smiles never change. In a city supposedly ravaged by bandits, there are zero beggars and everyone's clothes look brand new. "Whether they're children or elderly people, their smiles never change. The children may not understand what's happening, but how could the adults possibly be ignorant of what's going on?" This is genuinely unsettling. It's not horror-per-se, but it creates this thick, suffocating sense that something is deeply wrong beneath the surface of this seemingly prosperous city. The bandits aren't the only threat here—and that's a brilliant misdirection. Then there's Qinglong Stronghold itself. The image of the silver-masked girl lounging on the chief's seat, lazily twirling a dagger, while Qing Ren—who was formerly the chief—stands before her like a devoted subordinate? That visual alone tells you everything about power dynamics in this world. And the hidden compartment behind the bookshelf with the half jade pendant glowing faintly under moonlight? Cinematic. I swear I could see this as a TV drama. The contrast between the warm palace sunlight in the flashback and the cold, shadowy stronghold creates this beautiful emotional geography. The world feels lived-in. Corrupt officials, rotten prefectural government, bandit strongholds that have actually improved the region's safety under the masked chief—it's all layered and real.
Alright, I'll provide a similar review to others, just in case you haven't read theirs yet. The first volume was mostly continuous action, and the initial chapters drew me in as the protagonist struggled to survive in a dungeon he seemingly shouldn't have escaped. Overall, I thought it was beautifully executed. The loli vampire was a decent addition, restoring the MC's humanity that seemed to fade earlier on.
However, things took a turn with the second volume. It started promisingly with an interesting plot point about becoming overpowered, which initially piqued my interest. But then came the introduction of the shameless, busty rabbit girl. Despite some minor boredom here and there, I still held onto hope for the story.
The issue arose when the number of overly powerful female characters, all seemingly infatuated with the MC, skyrocketed to around five. At that point, I was on the edge of giving up. I hoped for a more engaging plot, but the introduction of the dragon – a hyper-masochistic female who desired the MC despite his treatment – pushed me over the limit. When it turned out her weakness was her bottom, and she fell in love with it, I knew I had to stop.
So, my advice is, if you're considering reading this novel, don't follow me down this path. The first volume is where the story shines, and it doesn't improve from there. Wishing you luck and happy reading!
Occasionally, I ponder why certain narratives idealize main characters (MCs) from system stories as if they're demigods. It's ironic how these MCs rely on external assistance, like their systems, just to survive. How can such naively arrogant individuals claim, "If heaven ignores Shen Huan, there'll be an eternity of darkness"?
Yes? is there a problem?
Not to my knowledge, no ?
Chapter 336, part 1 comes after part 2.
This is one of the most dog sh*t books I’ve ever read, I believe all of this authors books are equal garbage, hypocritical and full of plot holes, don’t read this garbage if you like dragons and were hoping for a good read. Forced myself to finish as I would then be able to say the entire book is unworthy to be picked up. This author needs to learn how to write out a proper story.
Give examples of animals clearly. for the author.
If he is, then it would be a horribly dumb novel
Spectacular book. One of the most memorable books I’ve read of all time
English PhD or chatgpt?
I call it turn off because I get outside this world into a new delusional world that truly sounds like unrealistic so it's a turnoff reality thingy
