The contrast in this chapter is *chef's kiss*. Mi Beibei's apartment is spotless—she cleans every table, mops the floor, hangs her laundry out to dry in the breeze, and her storage room is organized like a damn grocery store. And outside her window? A rotting zombie corpse on the street. "Lying on the road not far away was the same zombie that Gu An'an and the others had killed that morning. It was still lying stiffly where it had fallen, giving off an eerie feeling." This single detail does SO much worldbuilding. It tells us that violence is everyday, that bodies are left to decay because nobody has the resources to deal with them properly, and that Mi Beibei is acutely aware of it but chooses to just... pout about it ruining the view. That's such a specific kind of apocalypse survivor mentality—practical, slightly annoyed, not dramatically horrified. The food descriptions are also incredible. The roast chicken with "crispy golden skin glistening with oil," the egg and braised pig's trotter noodles with "creamy white broth" and "springy and distinct" noodles. These aren't just plot items—they're sensory anchors that make the world feel tangible. You can SMELL that soup. And the spatial ability reveal? The boxes just... disappearing? That's a visual that's going to stick with me. It's not flashy or explosive—it's quiet and almost mundane, which makes it feel more real in this world.
