So far the is the most well written book I have read on this platform. The story is amazing, the grammar is good, and hardly any spelling errors. This author doesn’t constantly mix up names like some others do.
Okay so let me just say this plot setup is genuinely clever and I need to talk about it because the author is playing 4D chess here and I am HERE for it. On the surface, this is a blind date story. You know the drill: two people meet, awkward small talk, maybe a movie, maybe a walk, and then either sparks fly or they politely part ways. But the author immediately subverts every expectation. Pei Cheng'an doesn't do the slow burn. He doesn't say let's get to know each other first. No, he looks her dead in the eyes and says I'd like us to try dating. Like it's already decided. Like he's ordering takeout, not proposing a romantic relationship. And Xia Zhen's reaction? She's internally screaming because her entire strategy was built on the assumption that she'd have weeks to slowly become unbearable. She rehearsed the whole arc: he'd get frustrated, she'd act devastated, and boom, she's the wronged party with a clean conscience. But he just... skips ahead. He makes it official on the first meeting. Her plan is completely derailed before it even starts. Then the movie gets cancelled because his mentor has a stroke. Which honestly feels like the universe itself is saying no, not today. The author keeps putting obstacles in the way of them actually spending time together, which is frustrating in the best way possible. Every time I thought they were finally getting somewhere, something happens. And then the dinner scene with Xue Nan. The sister who's looking at Xia Zhen with this knowing, amused expression? That's a setup. I can feel it. Something is coming. Xue Chen's reaction when his sister teases about someone taking him in hand — he literally stands up and runs to pay the bill. The author is planting seeds everywhere and I am waiting for the harvest.
