Completed book!
The pacing in these chapters is absolutely relentless and I mean that in the best possible way. The author manages to pack an incredible amount of story into each chapter without ever feeling rushed. Chapter 6 starts with Su Hongdou carrying those impossibly heavy suitcases, establishes the bodyguard arrangement, and ends with her practicing kicks upstairs. That is a lot of setup for one chapter, but it flows so naturally that you do not even notice. Chapter 7 is where the real comedy gold happens. It opens with Su Hongdou trying to tempt Shen Baizhou upstairs, which could have been a one-joke scene, but the author keeps adding new beats. She changes into the silk nightgown, he cooks fried rice, she listens from the stairs, he panics about his young body, she comes downstairs in that outfit, and then he has to clean up his kitchen disaster. Each beat builds on the last, creating a cascade of comedic escalation that peaks when she appears behind him in the red silk. Then Chapter 8 delivers the pillow tackle scene, which is the perfect payoff to all the tension built up in the previous chapters. The news headline about villa burglaries is a brilliant structural device, it gives the author a reason to shift the tone from pure comedy to something that feels genuinely suspenseful. When Shen Baizhou hears that clatter at 2 AM, the pacing suddenly tightens. The reader is pulled along with him, heart pounding, as he creeps through the dark house with a sofa cushion as a weapon. And then the reveal, it is just Su Hongdou. The release of that tension is so satisfying. What makes the pacing work so well is that the author never lets the reader get comfortable. Just when you think the scene is about cooking and flirting, it becomes a home invasion thriller. Just when you think it is a thriller, it becomes a romantic comedy. The structure keeps shifting genres while maintaining a consistent comedic voice, and that unpredictability is what keeps you turning pages.
I'm getting disappointed at where the story is going. I thought it was different from all those boring stories. But I guess I was wrong. The beginning was fantastic. But now... it whole of craps. I'm done reading. It sad that the Author ruin the book getting to the end.
