The way these two talk to each other is basically flirting through combat, and the author has perfected the art of making every exchange feel like a sparring match where neither person admits they're enjoying it. Take this exchange: "Could it be that Teacher Lu can't bear to be without me now?" "Exactly." That's it. That's the whole thing. He doesn't deflect, he doesn't make a joke, he just says exactly what she's implying and then moves on like it's the most normal thing in the world. And Shen Simo's reaction—she's flustered but covers it with more snark. The dialogue never stops moving forward, never pauses for sentiment. It's all forward momentum. But the real masterclass is in the internal monologue. When Shen Simo thinks about Lu Huaichuan's body chain being reference material and she's been wearing it, the author writes: "This man had a cleanliness obsession—if he found out his materials had actually been worn by her, she wouldn't be far from being kicked out of the house." And then she just... walks back inside and tells him directly. No manipulation, no games. Just brutal honesty wrapped in self-deprecating humor. The humor is what saves this from being too dark though. Shen Simo's internal commentary is relentless—"this bread could qualify as a controlled weapon," her reaction to Li Xue's website, the whole 'big house' misunderstanding. These comedic beats give the dialogue room to breathe and make the romantic tension feel earned rather than forced. And Li Xue's dialogue is perfectly calibrated. She's the comic relief but she's also the voice of reason, the one asking the questions the reader is thinking. Her sharp, impatient energy contrasts beautifully with Shen Simo's more measured, calculating tone.
