East of the moon and West of the sun hope I got it right. I like it already
It's actually pretty good. While this novel is considered average among many Chinese urban novels, it still manages to hook you with each chapter. The constant introduction of new female characters and unique interactions keeps things engaging, and the author rarely forgets about the girls the protagonist interacts with. This can be seen as a typical "junk novel" — something you know isn't great for you, but you can't stop reading. Some readers definitely dislike this novel, and there are valid reasons for that. However, a novel without tragic or negative scenes will never be considered truly great. Without its unique elements, this novel would indeed be just another generic piece of fiction filled with overused tropes like face-slapping, cliché stories, and a typical pattern where the main character saves a girl, she falls in love with him, and then disappears from the narrative, only to be replaced by another character following the same cycle.
The story is engaging up until now, but I'm struggling to locate the translated version in Montreal. I'm quite frustrated about it, T^T. Despite having only read five chapters, I've grown quite fond of Xiao Nan for taking care of her 23-year-old, foolish brother at just 12 years old. According to the rules, Su Yemu is still considered underage since adulthood is marked at 25. I really hope he matures a couple of years before they can be together. I noticed the 'Mpreg' tag on Foxaholic but not here, which is confusing me. I'm hoping to find the translated version soon. Edit: Just minutes after posting this, I managed to locate the translated content.
The global backdrop evokes memories of "S-Class Heroes I Nurtured" and "Omniscient Reader," particularly in the selfless nature of the protagonist. The main character displays kindness and goodness, but their unwavering idealism feels somewhat frustrating. They embody an almost utopian hero who refuses to let anyone suffer, even villains who haven't committed unforgivable acts, like murder. Unlike Kim Dokja in "Omniscient Reader," where the protagonist sacrifices himself for his loved ones when faced with no alternative, this MC willingly sacrifices themselves for strangers, leaving their friends and family behind.
I enjoyed the translation platform due to their excellent book selection. The concept intrigued me, which led me to start reading. Both the male and female leads (ML and FL) appeal to me. The pacing has been solid, and the world-building is impressive. The FL doesn't fall into the typical "idiot syndrome" found in some stories, nor is she overly assertive or angst-ridden. She's a refreshing and enjoyable character, currently my favorite FL as she portrays a relatable office lady. The ML is perceptive, avoiding common clichés often seen in romance novels, like mistaking the MC for his original counterpart. Despite his intimidating demeanor, he has a sense of humor, making him anything but a stereotypical stoic ML.
I'm puzzled by the low 1-star ratings, as I find the story engaging and well-executed.
then read on original website
2/10
Incredibly mediocre writing, bland plot points, no effort at anything original, the magic system is just awful? This novel is just garbage tbh, and that's before getting into how sh*t the pacing can be.
I see why many people don't find this work to be their cup of tea, however after looking at the negative comments vs actually reading the novel; I find that from another perspective all those negative comments ignore the positives of what they're complaining about.
In my opinion with regards to the premise of the book, our mc was pretty OP but also forced to be ignorant by his "comrades" before his rebirth, leading to his death and descent into madness and vengeance, however seeing his redemption as one of pure hatred slowly become a human being is what makes this novel so loveable to me. His story is so alien yet so human and to a far less intense degree something that we can all relate to.
I wholeheartedly recommend this flawed yet brilliant masterpiece to all those looking through the comments.
