The scene that unfolded before his eyes was nothing but his beloved, Jiang Suizhou. His heart swelled with admiration for Suizhou's captivating smile. Oh my goodness, this was truly exceptional!
Initially, the title gave off a mature and perhaps intense vibe, hinting at a potential non-consensual relationship, which made me hesitant to dive in. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find a well-developed story where the protagonist, an adult man, displayed maturity and thoughtful consideration. Although the naivety and obliviousness of the main character added a comical touch, it was refreshing to read about someone who didn't simply act on impulse.
The tension between the two characters was electrifying, even from the early stages when they were cautious of each other. I appreciated the professor background of the MC, which contributed to his grounded and sophisticated personality. The jealousy scenes and longing they shared were beautifully portrayed, making them adorable as a couple. Their relationship felt genuine, evolving beyond simple misunderstandings that could easily be resolved, making their connection all the more engaging.
Huo Wujiu, the主角, was a standout character. Despite his disability, he didn't let it limit him, which was inspiring. I enjoy novels that incorporate diverse characters, and the portrayal of Wujiu's situation was handled admirably. The way Wujiu openly expressed his love for Suizhou, despite societal disapproval, was heartwarming.
Towards the end, the pacing did slow down slightly, but that was more due to my personal circumstances than the book's quality. The political aspects were well-integrated, though not my primary interest. The MC's transformation into the cruel yet compassionate prince was a delightful subplot.
The villains were rather one-dimensional, but their tragic backgrounds added depth to the story. The conflicts were resolved relatively quickly, but I appreciated the emotional depth they brought to the narrative.
A minor issue was the translation, which was not the author's fault. The translator seemed to release chapters in small, delayed increments, causing frustration among readers. While I understand the need for compensation, it felt like a monetization strategy that detracted from the reading experience.
Overall, I highly recommend this novel, especially for those who enjoy romance and historical stories. It might not cater to everyone's taste, but for those who appreciate a well-crafted plot and relatable characters, it's definitely worth a read!
Having read a significant portion of the translated content, I found it enjoyable. If you're looking for a lighthearted fantasy where the main character constantly defies logic, this novel might be right up your alley. Personally, I appreciate the laid-back atmosphere that the story conveys.
After reading half the book, my impression is that it lacks depth and excitement. While I do find the main character (MC) likable, the supporting cast feels flat – the male lead (ML) is distant but amiable towards the MC and child, but the child's behavior is highly irritating, bordering on annoying. He constantly pesters the MC for attention, which is unrealistic for his age.
The MC herself is a Mary Sue character, but with a touch of intrigue. However, her lack of resistance when ML tries to manipulate the situation through the child raises eyebrows. It's implausible for someone like her not to push back when cornered.
The storyline revolves around the ML attempting to charm the child to win the MC's affection or the MC trying to resist, but it lacks tension or conflict. The resolution often relies on the MC's exceptional qualities, and character interactions are shallow, with clear dividing lines between friends and enemies.
In terms of quality, the writing, plot, and character growth leave much to be desired. The narrative feels overly expository, focusing on highlighting strengths and weaknesses without subtlety. The plot is predictable, with events telegraphed, and character development centers around the MC's perfection, despite the presence of an annoying child.
Dialogue-wise, it often deviates from the characters' personalities, coming across as bland and repetitive, making the reading experience quite monotonous.
While I'm not particularly enthusiastic about the story, I can understand that some readers might appreciate its slower pace and the intriguing MC. Personally, I may finish it but ultimately forget about it, as it doesn't resonate strongly enough with me.
