Let's talk about the ex-boyfriend situation because this is giving me life. Lin Mian and He Duoye's history is complicated AF. They got together in high school, she was eighteen, and he basically wore her down until she gave in. The text says they 'did it every day except during her period' and that she 'dreamed of being broken by him.' That's intense. Like, genuinely intense. But then she dumped him after a huge fight where she said terrible things, and he completely vanished from her life. Four years of no contact. And now he's back as this terrifying crime boss who could have her killed without blinking. The emotional tension between them is absolutely electric. Every time he touches her face, every time he smiles that dangerous smile, you can feel the history crackling between them. He asks 'Did you ever think of this day when you kicked me to the curb?' and it's equal parts threatening and... almost hurt? Like he's still carrying that rejection even after all this time. And Lin Mian? She's terrified of him but also clearly still affected by him. Her body remembers him even when her mind is screaming danger. The fact that she initiated the breakup but now has to beg him to save her life? That's some delicious emotional revenge right there. Also — and this is important — the author is setting up this whole dynamic where Lin Mian is attracted to dangerous men and keeps getting into life-threatening situations. Is that a pattern? Is He Duoye going to be her redemption or her ruin? I need to know.

I am enjoying this book. As previously stated, there are many twists and turn and so so not predictable. I am only about 3/4 finished but don’t want it to end. I plan on reading other books by Crystal. Two thumbs up
