A breath of fresh air in the Isekai genre.
Since the main character (MC) is a sword, there’s no harem in sight, and there’s also no sign of an edgy revenge plot. The MC takes on the role of a parent for the cat girl Fran and excels at it. Both of them have distinct personalities, and their interactions are sweet and humorous. The named side characters also have well-developed personalities, and many of them reappear throughout the story.
Because the duo of cat and sword isn’t overpowered, the outcomes of important battles aren’t predictable from the start, and the power of friendship doesn’t always save the day against formidable enemies. The skill system is reasonably designed, and the fight scenes are highly entertaining.
The world-building is solid, and the plot itself is interesting and, at times, intriguing. The only parts that could be considered filler are the descriptions of food, a common trope in Japanese media. Additionally, the introduction of the major antagonist raises the stakes and builds anticipation for future plot developments.
I don't believe this novel suits my taste. It lacks depth and fails to inspire; the protagonist is quite one-dimensional, fixated on his desires. He consistently loses focus, even in life-threatening situations, due to his constant preoccupation with sexual thoughts. The plot feels forced, primarily serving to advance his relationships with women or provide opportunities for intimate encounters with his harem. Even the potential for a compelling antagonist was rushed, reducing them to a mere tool for the harem's adventure.
The story lacks direction, coherence, or a meaningful progression. It seems to revolve around trivial activities and casual encounters rather than a clear goal or engaging narrative. While some isekai stories captivate with their power dynamics and character growth, this one doesn't deliver that. The main character isn't particularly strong; his past as a defeated demon king conqueror is more of a facade, masking his lack of actual combat skills or ambition beyond his sexual pursuits. He's academically and physically unprepared, choosing not to develop further because of his preoccupation with sex, leaving him somewhat underdeveloped as a character.
This certainly reads more like an introduction to a larger narrative than a standalone one-shot, in my opinion. Our protagonist appears to be the lone voice of reason amidst a world consumed by overly dramatic logic. Others attempt to impose clichéd tropes based on superficial judgments, disregarding truth. The MC prefers a peaceful life and finds himself at odds with the main love interest (ML), not from ill will, but due to societal pressure and the intrusion of ML's delusional admirers.
The turning point arrives when the Fire Nation – a joke here – attacks, or rather, when ML goes berserk and publicly professes his undying love for the MC, begging for their survival. The situation becomes uncomfortable as the MC, who isn't romantically interested, struggles with ML's intrusive physical displays. He accommodates them to avoid further complications.
The story doesn't provide a conventional conclusion; instead, it leaves a tantalizing open-endedness. A major plot twist reveals the root cause: the MC has been transmigrated into this world, tasked by a system to win ML's affection to prevent world destruction. There's a mix of time travel and a brief interdimensional journey where the MC supposedly seduced ML and 'died' for him. The time travel aspect comes from ML seemingly remembering before the MC's journey.
While the concept offers intrigue and an appealing character, the piece doesn't qualify as a standalone short story due to its incomplete nature. However, the translator has done an commendable job, which earns an extra star. Despite the storytelling quirks, the translation is smooth and easy to read.

Couldn't continue this beyond chapter 8. FMC is a nihilistic, unlikable cringey, depressed teen kid who transformed into a NEET hikikomori, shamelessly complaining (NOT in a funny way) about her family while burning their money for nothing.
Ffs, she got maids and all, with no pressure of a political marriage, and then this... "my family don't love me, wahhh!"...? Am I supposed to feel sorry for her?
...Tf even is this novel? Why does this abomination exist?
This novel is playing with my heart strings like a washed up guitarist. I just Can't help but root for june. Hopefully he gets a happy ending
