Okay I need to talk about this bus stop scene because holy shit. Haitang basically single-handedly took down two human traffickers and I am on my knees. Let me explain why this plot beat is so satisfying. First, she doesn't just stumble into saving the kid—she PLANS it. She recognizes their routine immediately: the traffickers pretend to be the child's parents, which is the classic move. So she PREEMPTIVELY accuses them of kidnapping, flipping the script before they can set up their cover story. That is some next-level thinking. But then the real tension hits when the male trafficker actually calls her bluff and says let's go to the Public Security Bureau. Haitang's internal panic is so real—she knows Chinese onlookers love drama but also love NOT getting involved, and she's right, they start disappearing one by one. She's trapped with trained criminals and a little boy, and her only card is hoping Yang Xichen shows up. And he does. Right when she switches tactics and screams 'human traffickers' with him arriving behind her—it's cinematic. The way she then bows 90 degrees to the crowd and apologizes for using them? Chef's kiss. She owns it, she's sincere, and the crowd actually forgives her because Yang Xichen is in military uniform and that carries weight. Also the subplot thread about Jiang Xingrui is quietly building. Haitang's line about trust being gone and them becoming strangers? That's a plot bomb that's going to explode later. I just know he's going to come back and she's going to have to deal with it. The author is laying groundwork and I'm here for it.
