I need to talk about this scene where Xue Ning burns those embroidered sachets. I literally sat there with my chest tight. She takes out all the sachets she made for Su Zhan before—some he threw away, others he never even looked at. And she just cuts them to shreds, throws them in the brazier, and watches them burn. The text says 'the flames suddenly leaped high, and she hurriedly closed her eyes, her lashes trembling.' That detail about her trembling eyelashes—she's not crying, but she's not fine either. And then the comparison to the letters she burned in Yongzhou before she died. 'Once burned, it would be over. Once burned clean, it would be as if nothing had ever happened.' I felt that. That's not just letting go of a person, that's letting go of an entire version of herself. But then she goes to the temple and kneels before her parents' tablets and says 'you must bless A-Ning to find a suitable husband soon'—and I'm like, wait, is she really moving on or is this just the next chapter of her survival strategy? Because she told Su Man 'he can't give it' when Su Man said Su Zhan could give her a peaceful life. That line hit me like a physical blow. She's choosing herself, but the wound is still fresh.
I'll be straight honest. MC is a huge dimwit. It's not his entire character that suffers, though. I do appreciate how he maintains a lot of wisdom, keeping a level head in the face of any adversary, whether an enemy or a domestic issue. However, he's just dumb in ways that don't make sense. So dumb that it knocks off a star.
Aside from that, the story itself isn't bad. It's actually quite entertaining, especially with how the MC is stuck in his village and not embarking on an adventure. His role in helping out at the inn makes it logical that the story unfolds through the arrival of outsiders, be they adventurers or knights.
Of course, we have to talk about the romance. It starts with a swing, hits the mark, but ultimately ends in a foul.
Again, the MC is a dimwit to proportions I can't comprehend. But I genuinely look forward to seeing how the story progresses.

This is f*ck*ng peak. The background is super fleshed out and explains everything that is needed. You won’t feel lost or out of place, the school arc is usually where we as readers find it boring. However it’s the opposite for this story, I enjoyed it every step of the way. The real good sh*t starts after that arc. Plus the mc’s relationship with his girlfriend doesn’t feel forced or becomes a harem. It’s wholesome with plenty of R18 stuff, but isn’t explicit. The only complaint I have is that WHY HAVE I NOT DISCOVERED THIS GEM EARLIER!?
hahah same. The only anime ill watch this season is 'Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers' because i really liked the manga.
