The dialogue in this section is deceptively simple but every line is doing heavy lifting. Let me start with the most important word in the entire text: "Baby." For over a decade Qi Chenyan never called her this. Never dared. And now he's whispering it against her earlobe like it's the most natural thing in the world. The contrast between his public persona—the noble, aloof Third Brother everyone respects—and this raw, desperate man begging for love through whispered threats and tender touches is everything. His line "If Xingxing lies to me... then I'll tie Xingxing up and... fuck" is simultaneously threatening and pathetic, and that's exactly what makes it feel real. Nobody talks like that in real life except when they're completely overwhelmed. Song Zhibo's dialogue is pure comic relief—"I'm flirtatious, I'm the most flirtatious!"—but even his scene serves the plot by establishing the He Sheng subplot. And Shi Xing's lines are carefully measured. Her "A Yan, I like you so much. I really want to marry you" could be genuine or it could be the performance of a lifetime, and the ambiguity is what makes her voice so compelling. The narrative voice itself is fascinating too—it's intimate, almost claustrophobic, staying locked in Qi Chenyan's perspective for most of this section. When we get those glimpses into Shi Xing's past life memories (the wedding rings, the scars on her hands), it's like the narrator briefly widens its lens. The author's voice feels like a close friend whispering gossip, and I'm completely hooked.
