If you are even a little bit interested in the life of normal people living through the Mao dictatorship, this is a must read. It doesn’t go into detail about the failed policies of that era or the cruel repression, but it is more powerful for that. It is a slice of life story its ups and downs and a very engaging cast of characters. It is also hilarious at times.
Is this photo of the novel's cover official or was it taken from Google?
It’s decent ngl but rn you can find me in 9star hedgemon arts novel you should come & check it out if you haven’t.
It was like a rollercoaster, not in the sense that there were too many ups and downs, but rather that the beginning was slow and steady, almost boring and somewhat uncomfortable (since I didn't like the Male Lead, or ML, at first). Once the story started to pick up, it immediately became enjoyable and thrilling.
This novel had sprinkles of everything I like for a leisurely read: an interesting plot, good character development, and a healthy mix of angsty, sweet, and thrilling moments. Despite the slow and somewhat uncomfortable start due to the amnesia and the ML's initial behavior, the novel became better and better with each passing chapter for me. It wasn't exactly amazing or perfect, but it was quite enjoyable. I also came to love our leads, especially the ML, who underwent significant positive changes (from a modern reader's perspective) to become the lovable character he was by the end.
**Spoiler Alert:**
The reason I found the ML uncomfortable at first was because he used the Female Lead (FL) by taking advantage of her amnesia to lure out an enemy (she was his lover) and pretended to be her husband. While he kept a reasonable distance from her, he eventually developed feelings he shouldn't have. His intentions evolved from using her and then getting rid of her after catching his enemy, to letting her live decently after he was done using her, to keeping her as his mistress in the outhouse (while he planned to marry his cousin, to whom he was engaged), to marrying her as a concubine (after she discovered she had been deceived and left him), and finally to marrying her legitimately as his only wife. The ML is a very stubborn, dedicated, and hardworking man, so once he made a decision, he never regretted it and worked tirelessly to achieve his goals, both in his love life and his career.
Similarly, the FL is a resolute and strong woman. She does what she has decided on, whether it's being a supportive wife who takes care of her family or a leader who shoulders her subordinates (though we didn't see much of the latter). She is also mentally strong, resolutely leaving the ML after discovering how she was deceived and his future plans for her, even though she loved him. She knew that if he let her down, she wouldn't be able to deceive herself into continuing to love him, so she chose to part ways with her dignity intact (as she did with her ex). I really enjoyed both characters, as they aren't your typical transmigrators or regressors but individuals with their own ideals. When the FL and ML were being affectionate with each other initially, it was uncomfortable not knowing how they would react after the truth came out. But when it finally did, I wasn't disappointed, and their reconciliation was refreshing. I couldn't love their relationship more.
Despite a few cliché tropes used here and there, they didn't drag the story down or become annoying. Therefore, it was a good read, and I might reread it after it has been completely translated. Kudos to the translator for bringing this wonderful novel to us with a great translation.
I genuinely can't comprehend why so many people gave it a 1-star rating. This light novel stands out as one of the top romantic comedy reads due to the fantastic chemistry between the main character and female lead. Their straightforward dynamic adds a delightful humor that keeps the story enjoyable. My bias might play a role since I adore silver-haired characters, but the female lead is endearing, and her attempts to win the MC's affection only to have it backfire are hilariously entertaining. While the translation could improve, considering the translator is new, it's not a deal-breaker for me – the novel itself is exceptional.
This is one of the exceptional xianxia novels I've read. The summary, although intriguing, somewhat misrepresents the story. The initial chapters set the stage for the engaging plot.
The novel is a captivating journey in itself, weaving together romance, politics, mystery, and divine elements seamlessly. What I appreciate is the balanced narrative, where the plot drives the romantic development rather than overpowering it. The characters, particularly Li Chaoge, initially come across as ruthless, but they reveal complex layers. Upon重生, she views her past life as a lesson, determined not to repeat it. Her actions, though sometimes harsh, stem from a desire to prevent悲剧 and adapt to her new reality, which leads to surprising plot twists. Li Chaoge is a strong, intelligent, and multi-dimensional character, not an innocent victim but a force to be reckoned with.
The author faced criticism for Li's character, but she坚守 her vision, which I admire. Pei Ji'an, another重生角色, adds depth to the story. He regrets his past and tries to change it, even if it means acknowledging his mistakes. His empathy towards others, including the antagonist from his tragic past, demonstrates growth and self-reflection.
Li Chaoge serves as the queen's powerful ally, driven by ambitious goals. The conflict between her and opposing nobles creates tension, and she navigates these dynamics while striving for stability in her current life. The mystery unfolds beautifully, revealing hidden agendas and intertwining plotlines.
The novel incorporates xianxia elements, such as vivid sword fights, action sequences, and unexpected plot developments. The author's extensive research on Taoism and law enforcement is evident. The male protagonist, Qin Ke (Gu Mingke in mortal life), descends as the Beichen Tianzun, a symbol of justice, assisting Pei Ji'an in his quest. Their relationship evolves slowly and thoughtfully, grounded in their shared commitment to justice.
Qin Ke's character is portrayed flawlessly, embodying the essence of an immortal descending to earth. The romance is well-developed, reflecting their principles and dedication to their beliefs, rather than a typical love story. The supporting characters are equally well-crafted, each with their own motivations and growth throughout the narrative.
In conclusion, this book is a masterpiece, combining compelling characters, intricate plot, rich themes, thrilling action, and vivid descriptions. It's a story that will undoubtedly stand the test of time, deserving recognition for its skillful storytelling.
As an avid reader, "The Divine Reckoning" captivated me with its compelling narrative. The story weaved a profound tale of redemption, taking me on a roller-coaster ride of emotions as the prodigal protagonist embarked on a journey of self-discovery. Its engaging characters and intricate plotlines kept me hooked until the very end. The exploration of morality and the power of forgiveness made it a thought-provoking read, leaving a lasting impression on my literary palate. A must-read for those who crave immersive and transformative storytelling.
This intriguing novel, "I Can Control the Zombies in the Apocalypse," captivated me with its unique premise. The protagonist's ability to manipulate the undead adds a refreshing twist to the post-apocalyptic genre, making it not just an action-packed adventure but also a thought-provoking exploration of power and morality. The narrative is engaging, keeping me on the edge as I witnessed the protagonist navigate the challenges of survival while grappling with their newfound responsibility. Overall, it's a thrilling read that challenges conventional norms and leaves readers pondering the blurred lines between heroism and control.
Definitely, the beginning is the most challenging for me but in the mid-late arc it's better than the original story
