AWESOME BOOK....LOVE IT
Let me tell you about the most satisfying workplace confrontation I have ever read, and it comes from a book about a machinery factory elementary school in what I assume is 1970s China. Jiang Wanwan walks into that office and she doesn't just defend herself—she restructures the entire power dynamic in three minutes flat. Teacher Niu has been making passive-aggressive comments because her niece lost the teaching position to Jiang Wanwan. Teacher Jia has been feeding those comments to Jiang Wanwan like some kind of human surveillance network. And for weeks, Jiang Wanwan just... let it happen. She waited. "Teacher Niu, you are absolutely out of line!" She storms in looking angry, everyone freezes, Teacher Niu prepares for battle—and then Jiang Wanwan pivots so hard it's like watching a magician pull a rabbit out of a hat that was actually a live snake all along. She makes it about Teacher Jia. She makes Teacher Jia the victim. She makes the gossip-spreader look like the one suffering. The stakes here are so much higher than office drama. In this era, in this factory town, reputation IS survival. Teacher Niu's niece couldn't get the teaching job—earning 27 yuan a month versus 18 as a factory apprentice—because of Jiang Wanwan. That's over 100 yuan a year difference. That's real money. That's a family's livelihood. And Teacher Jia is using that resentment as entertainment. What makes this scene work so well is that Jiang Wanwan doesn't just win—she wins in a way that leaves no room for retaliation. By framing it as "I'm protecting Teacher Jia from your negativity," she removes Teacher Niu's ability to complain without looking like the villain. And Teacher Jia? She's trapped. If she pushes back, she looks guilty. If she stays silent, she looks complicit. "Now that we've cleared the air, we don't have to suffer through this passive-aggressive gossip anymore." She didn't just win the fight. She ended the war.

I really enjoy the book. I'm give 4 stars because there is a lot of chapters that repeat the same text over and over.
