one of the best novels i read but a little confusing at start

There are so many layers to unpack in this passage if you're willing to look beneath the surface. Let me start with the most obvious symbol: the watch. Watches appear multiple times in these chapters. Auntie Wu admires Qiao Zhufang's Qianjin watch. The young couple wants to buy one but can't afford it. Qiao Zhufang has an older, more ornate watch that she can only wear at home because it's too flashy for public. These watches aren't just status symbols—they represent different relationships to wealth, visibility, and social standing in this era. The old watch belongs to a time when the family was well-off, a relic of prosperity that can't be displayed openly. The new watch is earned through hard work and business trips, a symbol of cautious upward mobility. And the desired watch for the young couple represents aspiration deferred, dreams saved up for slowly over months of wages. But the deeper theme here is about daughters versus sons, and the symbolic violence of treating children as economic units. Master Hu calls Qiao Jiajia a "money-loser" and says she'll only be good for fetching a bride price. He reduces an entire human being to her transactional value in a patriarchal economy. The Qiao family's rejection of this logic isn't just personal—it's ideological. When Qiao Qiusheng says their daughter is just as precious, he's not just defending his granddaughter; he's challenging an entire system of value. The live-in son-in-law detail is also deeply symbolic. Qiao Qiusheng married into his wife's family, which in this cultural context means the family name and property continue through the female line. Master Hu weaponizes this against him, but the narrative clearly positions it as a point of strength, not shame. The Qiao family's wealth and stability prove that the family structure works—Master Hu's son-centric model, for all his boasting, has left his family in debt and dependent on married daughters. And then there's Qiao Jiajia herself as a symbol. She's a girl who is adored, protected, and valued—not despite being a girl, but simply because she's their granddaughter. In a story set in an era and culture that often devalued girls, this simple fact is radical.
Great start, only 5 chapters so far but has me wondering when the author plans on mass releasing?!? Yes, mass release, please!! Looking forward to seeing her plans unfold and her hubby eating crow. Great job so far Senere_Daisy. Please upload some more chapters.
I'm writing this review as of chapter 93. As a big fan of PancakesWitch, having read most of her novels, I was naturally excited to read this one as well. And if you're like me and have read her other novels like Epic of Caterpillar, Demon Queen Rebirth, Vampire Overlord System, and so on, the comparatively much slower pace that this novel goes at may turn you off a bit. This series has a mix of action and slice of life, but this series has divides it at roughly 60/40 for each while something like Epic of Caterpillar divides it at roughly 90/10 give or take. And the slice of life isn't bad by itself, but it has an overeliance on cooking. I found myself skimming through these sections after a while. On the positive side, the action and system is as good as any other series! It has a good trait where it only introduces nee abilities as needed so that the audience can understand what each character has and how each ability interacts with each other ability. Only after that do they level up the skills or get new ones. The system does seem a bit more restrained as compared to others done before. Maybe those limits can be broken later on through the story or something. That could be interesting. Also, there should probably be a title section in the status that shows which title is currently equipped for better understanding. Overall, I'd say I mostly enjoy it. It is slower paced, so that might be a dealbreaker for some, but I'm sticking with it for now, and I think you should give it a chance as well.

I haven't read s***t about this book but all I know is that anyone who spends their time to write a book clearly have something special they want to share. The problem is just our own idea of what's special or dumb...
I like the premise of the story, however the story has a bunch of info dumps and bunch of unecessary words, I don't know if the writing will be better but it is hard to endure specially in the beginning chapters, where the author fully explain the rules of pokemon and act as if we do not know it
Actually not half bad author-san.It actually seems quite nice.I think this one has potential to actuallybe a great novel.I'll update this later when I reach chapter 50 or more. Anyways nice novel.
